Various regional planning, economic development/redevelopment, long term and mostly transportation planning positions over the last 38 years. Still enjoy the challenges too much to give it up. But ... ryding and the wind in my face is getting me to thinking a change may be in order.

I m not sure if I responded to this thread or not, so..

I retired in '08 after 38 years working as a carpenter, mostly concrete gang forms. I had a small contracting business off and on when I coundn't find work with a contractor. Wife retired from the Dept of Corrections in MI.

We just moved from an apt complex to an old farm house. What a welcome change that is!!

Well, I have just skimmed this thread, and I think that if it came to choosing people to survive the end of the world, most of y'all would be way ahead of me, with the skills you have!

I'm in customer service - the operative part of that phrase is the 'cuss' part, lol! Trust me on that. We are in sales and service for European manufacturers of wire drawing, fiber optics, and cable-making machinery. That's how I make my living, although I am a licensed building contractor.

I'll probably never get to retire. Between the economy's hit to my retirement plan, and the fact that I am the sole breadwinner in my household, I'll probably work till I drop.

My "first career" was in biotechnology patent law for almost 15 years. Before that I had a kazillion different jobs while I was going to college - it was a 13-yr degree program since I had to work and put myself through school.

Moved to Colorado when I was 45 and somehow ended up in real estate/land use planning which led to my current job with the Colorado DOT as assistant regional access manager for 15 counties. I love what I do now, but I'm still at least 5-10 years away from retirement.
