Default 2019 RTL - does your trunk pop open?

I'm new to a 2019 RTL. When I pull the latch to open the top trunk in the back, it just clicks, and I have to reach into the little space between the lid and main body and open it. I know this can't be good for the paint over the long term. The piston seems to hold the lid up, but it seems like the lid should pop up a little on its own once unlocked like the frunk does. And no, I don't have a rack or anything on the top of the trunk lid. (FWIW, the seat does the same thing, no movement, I have to be pulling up on it as I turn the key to get it even to unlatch.)

Are these behaviors normal? Have any of you modded the trunk to get it to pop up? I don't mind the seat behavior much, but am afraid one day it might not open at all--I definitely have to pull it open and can feel a "click" as it disengages from the post.

    TIA! - Allen

Both of my 2018 RLT are the same. Both have replacement struts.

I put new struts on the seats of both this week also. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B093H4QHV6...t_details&th=1

So replacing the strut will make them open automatically?

The shock is NOT meant to pop it right up from the closed position. I have a rack on the back lid, and I can easily grab that and start the upward motion to go up, but I don't release it, I just follow it up. So if it holds it up, then the shock is functioning properly. I put 2 shocks on mine, the other side one can retro fit with the parts. When I have a bag on the rack, I like to keep it open and not have it falling down.

There are threads about this on here. I have a 2015, so your 2019 is the same design as all the rest before the new 2020+ models arrived.

If you get a re-placement gas shock/strut that is powerful enough to open the lid, you should consider the fact that the plastic attachment points will probably break quite soon ...... those pieces were not designed for what you want them to accomplish .... JMHO .... Mike

That's an excellent point. I'm thinking of adding a pop-up spring & block as found in another thread. Or just always being careful I guess.

What are you using to reach into the little space between the lid and main body and open it? My trunk latch does exactly the same thing and has done so since it left the dealership on Day 1, and I simply use the pad of an index finger to raise the lid for more than nine years and 87K+ miles and there is not a single mark on the lid or the rear body of the Spyder. The gas strut is not designed to raise the lid and you will know it's going bad if it won't hold the lid in the fully open position in cold weather. I've replaced the strut once for that reason.

Go ahead & add the rack - lift on that instead believe is a spring on frunk lid latch that helps push open. Sorry no idea size, pounds, placement.

I had the same problem with my seat, plus wouldn't stay up while refueling. I got a stronger strut, and now the seat pops up and stays up. Also get the struts for your rear trunk if it's not popping open. GDoc
