I put 40k miles on my 08 Spyder in 2 years. BRP sent a new engine out when it blew at 21k, but after that I had problem after problem. I ditched the Spyder and switched to a Ninja for 80k and a Z900 for 70k. So I'm now at the point where my knees might let go whenever I stop the Z, so I sold the Z and bought a brand new 2022 F3 in Sept 23.
After 750 miles, I took it into the dealer to install floorboards and wire up my heated gear. Waited patiently at the dealer while they did the work.
Then ..... "Sir, you have an oil leak, and we don't recommend you ride it until the leak is fixed."
OK, 2 weeks or so for the parts, then another week to fix, EXCEPT ...... when they started working on it after receiving the parts, they discovered a crack in the engine block!
Now BRP is sending an engine out. I hope to ride it again before the end of the year.
As someone who rides over 10k a year and rides all year long, this is driving me nuts.
Tell me I didn't make a mistake buying a Spyder!! Gee, venting feels good.....

Reason: Expanded title to briefly state the reason for this thread! ;-)
Two bad engines in a row? Don't waste your time on lottery tickets. I am not aware of that happening to anyone that has posted on this site. I have been around here since 2010, but have owned a Spyder since 2008. I got the first one delivered to a customer in Alaska. I have never had any major incidents with any of the seven Spyders I have owned. I put on over 200K miles across the board during my ownership of Spyders.
I just sold a 2019 and a 2020 F3L. I considered them to be the best of all the Spyders I owned over the years.
It sounds like you have had a real run of bad luck.
Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.
I hope you get the new engine before end of the year!

don't know the cause of the crack. I sure haven't hit anything...
Luckily it is under warranty.
I must say that I loved the 2008 spyder when it was running. Problems with it included the power steering going out, cracked , and finally some cracked steel struts in the front ( which were probably caused by the weight of the Corbin fairing).

That sucks big time! Sure hate to hear & hope you have years of good things after the new engine is sorted out!

Thank goodness you sent the bike in for some work done on it. Imagine if you were riding in a remote area and the block gave way and getting oil on the rear tire. Hoping you get your bike back soon You may want to ask for a loaner while you are waiting for a motor.

Since the intoduction of the 1330 engines back in 2014 there have been several reports of "POROUS" castings from the engine manufacture that leaked oil and required replacement...If fact, BPR wanted to epoxy at least one new owner's engine with some type of special expoxy...
Do a site search and hopefully it will turn something up???
A manufacturing defect can happen to any bike. I had several Triumphs over the years and never had a single major problem with any of them EXCEPT one had slight oil leak that could be fixed and Triumph ended up having to replace the crankcase which was apparently a tiny bit out of spec. After that the particular bike worked flawlessly. I never held it against Triumph and my experiences after that proved them to be reliable and trustworthy. As to the Spyder, my 2021 RT has not had a single problem, major or minor, since the day I left the dealer with it. I have 17,000 miles on it and could not be happier.

BRP shipped the new engine out and the dealer received it 2 weeks later. Today, I finally picked up the Spyder. Seems to run fine so far. Now I have to catch up on my riding....

Ride safe! And here's to there being no more need for new Spyder engines!
