Default Pulled pork .... From a pressure cooker

I've posted about using a pressure cooker for cooking chicken in 10 min. .... Today it's all about Pulled Pork (in an hour) .... Pulled Pork the usual way takes 6+ hours in an oven etc. .... I got a recipe on how to do it in a pressure cooker and it came out FANTASTIC .... Depending on how large the P.C. is (mine is Four qts. = 3 1/2 lb pork butt MAX) .... I did a dry rub, then added some garlic into slits in the butt..... I wanted gravy, so used a large stainless fry pan to brown the butt, added a bit of red wine to de-glaze, simmered some chopped onions, made a slurry with 1 1/2 tbl corn starch, added 2 cups water & some thyme & sage etc. & one packet of powdered gravy mix ...... put Butt into P.C. on a raised disk, poured the gravy mix over it, and closed the Lid .... Brought it up to temp and lowered the heat to the point where the Pot 's temp regulator is just "giggling" slightly ..... cooked for an Hour - re-leased the steam. I broke off large junks of meat into a serving bowl, then poured off the gravy. ..... the pork was about as tender (& juicy!) as any pulled pork I have ever eaten. ..... if you just want Pulled Pork, do the rub and only add one cup of water ..... Good Luck, & ENJOY .... Mike

... Hey Mike, just wanted to know what brand is your 'Cooker'. I have an old cooker that was my mother's. It can hold a ten pound turkey. We have used it for Thanksgiving for years.

Enjoy your pork roast and thanks for your recipe. I might give it a try. .....

I have one made by Presto, now. The Mirro PC ( both are stove top type not electric ) I inherited from my Mom was so old the handles broke ( it was six qt. ) I was too LAZY to make new handles , so bought another ..... Even tho yours is larger it will work the same way using the recipe above, but adjust it for the size of the Butt . ..... I would google - how to use a pressure cooker, that's where I found my info. ..... Using the pressure cooker , saves an enormous amount of time and the amount of energy needed to accomplish the task ..... I hope some folks try it and report back ....Mike

Many years ago I used a pressure cooker for mostly tougher cuts of beef to put into stews or soups but haven't used one in a long time now.

Well from what I've read about Pork Butts, they can be tough if not cooked properly .... the Butt that I just did was " Fall off the Bone " tender ..... I just looked at Walmart & they have a SIX Qt. ( stove top ) model for less than $ 30.00, made by Farberware ..... Mine is 4 qt. and wish I had gotten a Six qt. .....Mike ....Walmart actually has them in 4 - 6 - 8 &10 qts.

I’ve used a pressure cooker for years. My mother used them when I was a toddler. Back then, they sometimes were overheated and deposited the meal on the ceiling (I never saw that), but todays pressure cookers are pretty well fool-proof but you do have to pay attention. PC cooking blends all of the flavours.

Hey Mike, I just got this news from the wife. She's going to get out the 'pressure cooker' and give it a try.
I will let you know how things go.
Not sure about her timing, sometime before Thanksgiving is the plan.

Mine is just a wee bit different, instead of PC I’m using my SC (instead of pressure cooker I’m using slow cooker) and I’m using pineapple juice. Damn, the house is already smelling fantastic and there’s about 4 to 5 hours cooking time to go.
