Any advice on side luggage compartments that won't open?

Have you tried pushing in the door while pulling the release lever??? .... Is the compartment over-filled??? ... Mike ...PS if the latches are really dirty spray with carb cleaner and then dry silicone .....

Sometimes I have to pop mine with my knee and pull the lever at the same time if I have it stuffed. And also, some people are having to make adjustments to their cables because the factory didn't do a good job, so you have to take some of the slack out. When you get the door open, you look up there and see where the cable runs into the lock, you'll see an adjuster with two nuts, loosen the jam nut and make your adjustment! Good luck

i took mine to the dealer , they had to adjust and lube the cable

All of the above are correct. I actually broke the handle on mine trying to open it. And I am definitely not the only one. But sometimes they will be a little too full and you have to push against them with the knee and pull the handle at the same time. Really poor design on the 2020+ RT models.

My 2020RT side case lids were almost impossible to open, even banging on the lid as has been suggested. I found TSB # 138444 that tells dealers to replace the cables controlling opening of the lids.
I had mine replaced a week ago, and the lids open just like new now. (original warranty applies, so it may have expired).

There is a service bulletin for this on some years. Look on NTHSA.gov website.
It replaces regular cables with stainless cored ones.

Mikey4201:
Yes. mecsw500 is 500% correct. Here is the specific TSB. Contact your dealer with this information and they will replace your cables at no cost to you.
I had mine replaced after breaking a latch.
Now the bags open with almost no pressure on the latch.

This is good news. I wish I had it 3-4 weeks ago when I got mine replaced. I had it done at the dealership, but they said there was not a TSB. It was no big deal, because I had the extended warranty. But I had to pay the $50 co pay. But the way I see it, that could have been $50 worth of gas.

Adjust them.
It was really easy on my '18 RTL. Pushing the side while pulling up on the lever to open it got old REALLY quick.

On '20-up, lay down on floor, look up under towards front of bag and you will see the cable adjuster. Loosen tiny lock nut, screw adjusting nut one way or another until your lid opens when you pull the latch.

Your cables are probably corroded. That's the reason for the TSB. No amount of adjusting is going to make it better if they are corroded.
