New member/new F3S/older rider
I bought a new 22 Spyder F3S in Manta Green last week and have started a shopping list: Gustafson 20" light grey tint windshield, handle bar warmers, Shad bags, riding jacket and pants, gloves etc. I have many helmets including carbon fibre open face with goggles so we will see what works best and will build my own boards.
I have not been a highway bike rider but pretty much everything else Can Am or Skidoo: Quads, Defender sxs, seadoos, skidoos including the mountain version etc. but had not purchased a Spyder until now and time was running out age wise. I had test ridden the Spyder when they first came to market but had too many other things ahead of it until now. I got my bike license in the 70's when we used to take a Honda 100 with us when we went camping.
Just checking the weather before heading out this morning for my first longer highway ride of about 1 1/2 hrs. one way. Central Alberta, Canada
I have read my owners manual and will review parts of it again. I have been reading many of the threads on here before deciding to sign up and look forward in participating in some after I learn how this forum works.

Congratulations on the new F3S. I have the same year and model, my 1st trike ,and I love it. I'm sure you will as well. The Shad bags are awesome. The other add on I like the most is the BRP adjustable driver back rest. I wasn't sure if I'd like it, but now I wouldn't leave without it.

Sherwood Park just East of Edmonton. Thanks for the welcome.
Todays ride was a challenge with the wind from the WNW at 16-24 mph. My round trip started with the wind from the left to behind me and than on the return from the right and towards me and slightly from the right. I now have 200 miles/320 km on the trike and showing about 50 miles to empty. The trip was tiring because I was hanging on to the bars too tightly; the vehicle was new to me but mostly because of the wind. I used a 509 full faced helmet and it was fine straight ahead but felt like someone was pushing the top of my head left or right. At 60 mph I was being buffeted like I was doing 76-84 mph without a windshield. The trike has some grasshoppers on it and I caught one dead center of the face shield.
Overall the trike ran well and is more stable in the wind than the top half of the rider. The only thing it didn't like is a section of pavement with big truck woops(real short ups and downs). It felt like I was riding a jack rabbit through that section. I am looking forward to my Gustafson windshield in about 4 weeks, my Shad bags mid August and I should be able to complete my boards by early August (waiting on the metal shop to shear and break the metal for me to start. I think its a keeper.

Yeah, that Alberta wind can be a wee bit of a problem. I found riding between Calgary and Edmonton can be a real chore, whether on two wheels or three. You’ll find that as you put on more km’s the smoother and less tiring the Spyder will be. I’m now on my 8th year on three wheels and love every km that I put on, so I guess I’ll keep it.

Manta Green is a color that skidoo and seadoo have used occasionally and I have a Black Renegade that I highlighted with MG so now I have a pair in the garage.

That's one heck of an initial ride!

I can see the mirrors perfectly fine. The camera is mounted on my chin on the helmet, so the vantage point is lower than my eyes. Thanks anyway.

AndyF3S,
off topic a little... You can definitely see the Manta Green on the snowmobile trails.

My mirrors are okay at best I can see behind on either side no problem but no so well next to me on either side and without the windshield which is on order I don't like to turn my head to shoulder check at highway speeds. I don't change lanes without a bit more care and attention.
