Default Anyone else ryding with an Ankle Foot Orthotic? How's it working?

Anybody else sporting one of these?
Have a (hopefully) temporary issue with my right leg and am now using an AFO for foot drop. Wondering if anyone is ryding with an AFO? Hows it working for you?

Have not had that particular device but similar(Boot/half cast). Basically required more leg movements than tilt of foot. Adjust seating accordingly & hopefully just a temporary inconvenience.

I had a back operation to correct a pinched sciatic nerve and was left with left drop foot.
Have an AFO brace and absolutely hate to wear it. Tried it once on the trike and didn’t like the feel.

Can see why you need to wear yours in order to operate the brakes.

As far as a temporary condition. Has been over 4 months and no change for me. They say that nerves heal at a 1/4” a month.

If that is true and me being 73, it’s a race whether the nerve heals or I kick the bucket.

That's about 6.35 times faster than they told me! I got told they heal at a MAXIMUM of 1mm per month under ideal conditions & only if you don't aggravate them further.... but then, by nature, I'm very aggravating!

Still, if they DO heal as fast as you were told, then I'll be fully healed in..... Let's see, multiply by 6.35, carry the.... gaahh, BUGGRIT!

To overcome my right drop foot and hamstring limitations I always wear sturdy 8” boots while on the Spyder and have it set up with highway legs. With my foot on the highway peg I brake with my heal.

I ride with two prosthetic legs (double below knee amputee). It's fine, I have to lift my whole lower leg to use the brake as I have no ankle flexion, but I'm used to it.

That's what I'm thinking about. Just worry that I won't be able to "moderate" the brake, like to just slow a bit.
The AFO makes my ankle rigid.

Been riding without a left leg since 2005. Before that I rode for about 20 years with a prosthetic left leg. Amputated just below the knee, as a result of motorcycle wreck in 1982. Got where I could no longer wear the prosthetic leg because of bone growths. Right leg also has pins in the knee and too painful to walk very far on it. Still riding. You can adapt if you want to. Built my own trike out of 2 wheel Sportster when almost nobody was selling trikes, and put a right foot shifter on it. Rode it Florida to Maine and back several times. Riding a paddle shift Spyder now. Didn't buy it specifically because of the shifting problem. Bought it mainly because I am so old the vibrations from the Harley made my arms go numb.

I would find someone to fit a hand brake up for me. There must be some place that's got one on the market.

Not likely to find one for sale due to liability issues with modified equipment. Find somebody to build one.

Actually ISCI makes one just for the Spyder. Motorcycledave.com (A Sponsor here) sells it.
