Default Huge thanks to Netzley for deactivating DESS!

Was at the SE OHIO rally. Nice time. Out of the blue with no warning, I go out to start my Spyder for a morning ride and the DESS key warning comes on. Won’t start. Disconnected battery and tried again, same error. Grabbed spare key, same error. She would not start as soon as I hit the ECO button.

Netzley was at the rally. Drove my truck to them and they said they'd literally just purchased the program the night before. They installed the program, one guy jumped into my truck, and I drove home 2.5 miles down the road. Literally in 2 minutes it was running. Little to say but word traveled like wild-fire that my bike was dead. 10 other guys deactivated theirs the same day!

Talk about luck! I should have played the lotto that night. To have them there and so close, when it could have happened out west on my 8000 mile trip in 2 weeks-time, then I would have been screwed! I was told that most dealers will repair not deactivate, because that’s a no-no for BRP. Thanks, Netzley.

Just passing on another location that will do it on the East Coast now. One of the guys there said he had to take his to Lamont, which was the closest place to Ohio who'd do it a year ago!

Thanks so much for sharing this info, Wmoater.

I am planning to attend SpyderQuest in September, and the Netzley team will be there. My husband and I are now planning to have them deactivate the doggone DESS on both of our Spyders!

Just a word of caution, if you take your bike to a dealer after youve deactivated your DESS, if the dealer has hooked up BUDS, you need to check with them as to if they reactivated your DESS; it's what they do on knee jerk when they get in there and see it deactivated. Just FYI

I'll admit to ignorance on my part, but other than telling you that your two good keys are bad, what exactly does the DESS module do? I know there have been many threads on this, particularly Deanna's that goes waaaaaay back, but wading through them made my head hurt. Also, what does it take to disable it? It seems that a lot of folks here do just that with no ill effects. Grateful for any information.

Whoops! I see that JimH posted about this very question.

Planning on having Netzley replace the rear tire at the Maggie Valley Rally in October. Thinking I'll have them add the DESS deactivate.

They did me a solid a couple years ago, checked alignment, it was dead on! Said it was only the second time that has happened. They said no charge, huh? Had to do all the set up and measurements and their knowledge is worth $. Whatever. (Their tip covered their beer tab that night).

It was/is designed as a Security device. If the chip in your /the key doesn't match your Ignition switch it won't start..... however in 2014 some idiot decided to fix a problem that wasn't a problem .... and DESS failures started to occur. Mine is now dis-abled, and it took all of 5 min. to do it .... You need a MegaTech BUDS lic. to do it .....Mike
