Anyone got any Additional Security for their Top Case??

I do not feel the lock on the top case is secure enough. I've lined it up where it locks fine, but it's more of a deterrent IMO.

Has anyone added a locking mechanism or replaced the lock or have any suggestions on how to secure it better?

It's not urgent as I've travelled with it many times but haven't had the time to research things.

I have not seen much on the site about beefing up the lock on the top case.

Locks, unfortunately are for honest people. I would not want someone to be taking a crowbar or similar to the plastic in the trunk. I have been riding since 1965 and only one motorcycle was broken into. My 1983 Venture which was parked in an alley. They screwdrivered that one open, but amazingly did not damage the locks or the fiberglass.

Beef it up all you like. Hasp and staple set up. Wrap around wire ropes. Whatever..... excluding Landmines and stuff.

Have you considered taking a lightweight bag at all?

Unload valuables and kit when overnight and at most risk while traveling, or parked unattended for periods of time?

I rarely lock my bags... I would rather have the few things in them stolen then damage my bags.. When I park over night in a hotel, I park near the front door usually under a light pole. I take my overnight bag and my helmet up to the room. I cover my F3 with a half cover.. If they want whats left inside the bags they can have it.. Everything in my bags, left overnight, costs less than the cost of replacing lids on my cases... I leave NOTHING of real value in my F3..
Years ago, My 04 Venture was parked overnight at a hotel, with half cover. I came out in the morning to find my saddle Bags were open everything was there except my spare cigarettes, a small tool bag and a ball-cap... The cover was not removed and the heated vest in the top case was still there. Cost of new saddle bags would have been far, far more expensive then what was taken... Just my 2 cents...

Locks tell honest people you don't want them to open your case. It's plastic. 1 or 2 good smacks, its open and broken.

I don't leave anything in my cases I can't afford to lose. That said, haven't had any theft (so far). Hope I didn't just jinx my luck.

That was one of the things I liked about my old Ventures. You could take the cases off and use them like suit-cases. However after doing that a couple of times, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle. So, to answer your question - No, I haven't I don't have a concern about it. As with others, I leave nothing in there I can't afford to lose.

It's a plastic box. If someone wanted it bad enough, a well-placed pry bar would pop it off the rack it sits on. Locks only keep honest people honest. This is what insurance is for. Don't keep valuables in your top case when parked overnight or for long periods when you'll be away from the bike.

I used them as suitcases once. Too much hassle for me too.

I once worked in a machinery space (protecting the identity some) and when operating certain valves, it was required to torque them on their back seat and front seats. So we needed a torque wrench. As you can imagine, the snap on torque wrenches seemed to be "getting lost".

The site manager was tired of this, so he had chain welded to the torque wrenches and then to the deck supports to prevent them "getting lost".

I think it was two days later the chains "got lost" and the torque wrenches were still there.
