    Default Should the HCM filter be replaced?

    My Spyder F3S is an 2018 motorcycle. Should I replace the HCM filter?

    my total mileage is about 10,000 miles.

    Sometimes when I go up from 1st to 2nd gear, the RPM drops and there is a feeling that the engine stops for 1 second. Is it time to replace the HCM filter?

    Pull it and check it when you do your next oil change. Buy one and always keep one on hand. Can't really address your first question without knowing what you're riding. I don't think the HCM filter would have anything to do with a lag in your RPM's.

    I changed mine at 32,000 mi., didn't see anything of concern ..... now at 75,000 mi. I'm going to change it ( probably for the last time - I'm 76 ) .... I won't hurt to change it ... but IMHO it's not necessary..... Mike

    Oh.. It's amazing that there is no problem even with a lot of driving.

    It is doubtful that you need to change that filter at 10k. The issue you describe does not sound like a transmission fault. I would look elsewhere for a solution. Anything is possible, of course. But if your filter is clogged at 10k (very unlikely). You have a serious problem that changing the filter will not cure.

    I'll have to check it out next time I change the oil and take it to the inspection center. T_T

    You would need a test bench to test flow. You would need to destroy the filter to see if it was clogged. Again, my guess is that something else is creating the issue. It would be expensive. But you could replace the HCM to eliminate it as the cause.

    Ha. Just had a thought. Want a laugh. If you didn't have a test flow set up I guess you could remove, clean it up a bit and see if ya can blow through it.

    I just replaced one on my 3rd hand 2017 F3. Dam. Maybe I could have run my hillbilly test on the old, then the new.

    While it hasn't done mega distance at all but had been there since new. Absolutely probably overkill but I have a datum now with with known oil and filter changes.

    Yeah I know. Thats me over there. Wearing belt and braces with an inch pound wrench in my back pocket and 6 point sockets on the table.

    kongdoly -- are you the original owner? If so, at what mileage did you start noticing this intermittent problem? And what is your RPM shift point? Does the problem occur when the engine/transmission are cool from the first run of the day or when they are warmed up after riding for 1/2 hour?

    If you're not the original owner, try the 1-2 shift at 3.5K RPM or higher and see if the problem goes away.

    At 10K miles you should have had a recent oil change. Did the problem worsen or improve?

    Changed on our 2014RTL at 5 yrs old - 27,000 mi. (dealer) and last Thanksgiving (DIY) at 57,000 miles. Seems to shift smoother, but that's just me.
    Like Blueknight911, I don't see doing it again (80 Y.O. this May) !

    Most likely, the smoother shifting is due to the new oil. Especially if you're using the XPS blended oil and going the prescribed 9,300 miles between service.
