Default Owners without problems - Rollcall

As we have all seen lately, much of the forum is becoming dedicated to posts about the problems people are having with their Spyders. This is a great place to discuss those issues, and they are very serious concerns for those that have them as well. I also know that some people are reading about them and are posting they are know scared to be a Spyder Ryder.

What I would like to see in this thread is for people who are not having problems to check in and just let us know. I have a feeling there are many more people without issues that are just not posting about it. Perhaps if they chime in as well we can get some sort of perspective on how widespread these issues really are.

If you would be so kind as to post your Spyder's year and model that would be great as well.

    I will start it off.

We are a 2 Spyder family, and since having the update to the update applied our Spyders are running great. We have ridden for the past 2 days, and mine currently is approaching 5,000 miles.

    Mine is a yellow 2009 SE5.

    Love2Ride's is a red 2009 SE5.

Before the debate starts, mine is faster!

    Thumbs up

'09 Sm5-9000 miles. All stock mechanicals. A little surging between 3-4000 rpm, I just ride through it. 34 to 36 mpg average, except when I was in Tennessee where I had a couple of tanks over 40 mpg. 1st. update was done, nothing since. Very happy Spyder rider.

2008 SE5, cracked coolant bottle, but I wouldn't call that a problem because it never stopped me from riding and it was fixed through warranty. Bought 11-18-2008, now have 28,000 miles plus.

    Default LOVE IT!!!

'09 se5 - JUST INSTALLED THE COMFORT SEAT. No problems that a can of WD-40 couldn't fix (parking brake). Had the first update and the thing runs like an angry dog. No other issues!!!!

As one of the youngest owners on the board (27) - this thing is great and has done everything I have ever asked of it!!!

I have a few more weeks till the snow hits.

    2008 sm5 - 2,500 miles - currently no problems (knock on wood)

All stock - no performance mods. did the oil can mod to fix the oil in the box nightmare. Had very very small leak on the outbound fuel filter line - replaced clamp - fixed. Squeeky brakes - I fixed that.

Have not done either update yet

no major issues and I LOVE MY SPYDER

I would say not having any problems now, or no major problems to report at all. Mine had the surging issue after the first DPS update, but the second update corrected all of that and the Spyder is running great.

If you get the second DPS update the surging will go away, and you will be even happier with your Spyder.

I have an "08 SE5 and have had no problems. I fall in love with this bike more and more each time I ride it. I have not had the update to the update, still unsure if I will, considering the problems some have had with it. I enjoy riding with my husband every chance we get.

I ordered my spyder in August 08 and received it on 11 November 2008. Since that time I've ridden just over 4,500 miles with no problems. I have yet to get the 1st update for fear that I will start having problems. I get an immense amount of enjoyment riding and will continue to do so.

No problem. Anything can be a lemon. It happens all the time. Tvs, Cars, washer/Dryer, Stereo, Motorbike, You name it and they can be a lemon. I feel bad for those with problems.

For clarification: I just checked my paper work, and what you need to ask about is the Engine Performance update that was issued on September 28, 2009. There were some communication issues between myself and the dealer staff when I was asking for the "latest" update, and they insisted my Spyder did not need it since my VIN was not on the list. Turns out that was a different update than the one released on September 28.

Other than going into Limp Mode twice after the recall, no real prob. MPG in town took a radical dive bout 1 week after the recall work. Hwy MPG is normal. I am having the 2nd update done Tuesday. Never a steering issue, and the shifting is better since the ground wire. I was minutes from doing the canisterectomy yesterday when my dealer called to set up the update. I did notice oil around the lid to the airbox. I'll have them check that out while its in the shop. 8,000+ mi and loving it. My truck is getting lonely.

. . . . No, problems, just an embarrassing amount of fun and great experiences.
