Default Anyone have any idea where this Mystery Bolt belongs?

I know this is a long shot but thought I’d try. After hauling the Spyder home to Ohio from Florida I found this Allen head bolt on the floor of the trailer. I cannot find where it came from. It looks to have threadlock on it. Any of you that do your own maintenance have any ideas?

Since this is the Spyder RT Touring forum I thought people would know that part. It’s a 2020 Can Am Spyder RT Limited.

OK! On the 2020RT there are 3 screws on each side that hold the long wing panel on each side. Pull the first 2 panels off each side and look to see if the 3 screws are in place for the #3 panel. They are fastened with a T30 torx screw driver. Hope this helps!

Sorry, now proof read, yours are hex allen wrench head. Looks like they could have come from the Lamonster spyder cuff, 1/4 inch x 20 thread.

Sorry to send you down those rat holes, maybe it fell out of that Chinese air balloon!

Kingz, while it is the RT forum, the pre and post ‘20 RT are completely different designs. Plus, when members look at “what’s new”, the forum name is often overlooked. It’s always a good idea to include year and model when asking questions……and even better if you include Year and Model in a signature line at the bottom (Settings (top row of the site), then Edit Signature).

……and unfortunately, I don’t recall seeing that bolt on my ‘21 RT.

Hmm, thread lock compound and it fell out? Possible I guess, but has the dealership or any one else worked on the machine? My thought is the fastener got dropped and fell down into the black hole of machinery never to be seen again. Whoever dropped it may have replaced it with a new fastener and this one finally jiggled around enough and fell out.

That's a shorter bolt than most. From my experience, that is used on each side of the bike where the side panel meets the wheel well. Visualize it as even with the back of each front fender, approx even with the front of the footboard. the only other spot these short bolts were used is at the side panel upper area approx even and under the middle side edge of the pax seat.

It might help with the solution if you could provide the thread size and length. Also, is it possible it came from the trailer and not the Spyder?

Post #7, Jetfixer has narrowed it down, he knows these 2020+ RTL's, I would go with his hunch!

Is it for sure an allen (hex) head? If so, unless BRP made some real changes in bolt usage with the 2020+ models, I don't think it came off the Spyder. The Spyder has almost all torx head bolts and very few allen head screws.

I know I am riding old iron, but seems to me, somewhere up on or around the dash they used that size screws to hold the bezel on!

If the locktite is Undisturbed, it’s probably an extra, dropped accidentally. Jet fixer is right about where they go, but if those are there, you have an extra. More importantly, screws that small don’t hold structural components. You get an extra! No worries!
