Default Charging a Garmin Drive Smart from USB

Considering a Garmin Drive Smart model and would like to be able to run it off the USB port on the Ryker.
Is this kosher? If not I'll stick with my phone as I'm not interested in doing any wiring.
    Thanks

I run my drivesmart directly from a usb outlet that I installed on my RT. Has worked fine for a couple years now.

I wanted to be sure the Garmin wouldn't be using more juice than the USB port on the bike could supply.

The phone is a much better GPS than a Garmin. You can install TomTom, Genius Maps or Sygic for way less $$$.

Tested my Garmin Zumo XT with the SD ports. Worked fine. They ran both my phone and the Zumo at the same time.

Later hot-wired the mount so not using it because of the waterproof issue with an open charge port using the SD cord.
