    Default Sadly, I can't fly...

So, 13 days ago I took flight (or I attempted to...) and failed in epic fashion. I went over to a friend's house to show him the correct way to field strip a 1911 (handgun - it's a handgun!) he's a new firearm owner and I've been taking him to the range so he can qualify for his concealed carry license... but I digress.

So, we spend about 2 hours in his garage and head upstairs to his townhouse we talk a bit etc etc. and now it's getting late, 11'ish; so I take my leave & as I'm heading out the door I remember he called out his dog's name, so I turned to grab the dog....

The next thing I know, I'm waking up with a bright light shining into my eyes and a voice saying, "Welcome back." . From what I'm told, his dog jumped on me (90 pound pit) knocked me over backwards down the stairs, and I managed to miss every single step and landed flat on my back on the bottom landing (well, crash landing) missing all 12 steps.

Now the battery of tests start. Name/DOB/what day is it/wife's name etc etc. They ask about my level of pain and I said "just a little numbness in both my hands." The look of shock on their faces was priceless; Can you feel your legs? Yeah, but it's my back that hurts; so off to Xray then MRI. More questions/more tests. I ask if I can go home, ER - that would be a NO.

So, they kept me for 24 hours with no sign of trauma other than numbness in my hands and a back that looked like I was beaten with sledge hammers.

I got scripts for some decent drugs that kept me pretty high for a few days, got in to see my Doc, and he got me into a Chiropractor ASAP.

Let me tell you Y'all this, I've been seeing this chiropractor every other day for the last 10 days and I can finally walk/sit/stand with minimal pain; I went from a pain level of 10 down to a 2 & I haven't taken any drugs of any kind for 6 days now.

Tomorrow I'm going for a ride and will have lunch someplace.

Y'all know that old saying, KNOW your surroundings..... Yeah, I need a refresher on that, and don't get tackled by 90 pound pit bulls.

Oh, the dog meant no harm to me, Odin is a big baby

Wow……..sorry to hear that you attempted to fly, but couldn’t, Stephan. But it’s great to hear that the outcome wasn’t too bad. It could have been a lot worse, given your advanced age, mate

I dunno Slice, but I reckon playing stunt man at 24 was a bad decision.... let alone at 64!!

I can say that with true feeling too, now that I'm over 64 & well into paying the penalty for my miss-spent youth!!

Glad to hear that you're back on your feet & the pain's going down tho, I hope that continues and there's no longer term repercussions....

Glad to hear you are on the mend, I too failed at flying (backwards ) a couple of years ago, got to watch out for those low hanging wires. I still don't remember much of the experience and do not want to try it again. Enjoy the ride and your lunch

    .

    You're a very lucky guy............

Yes that's Kaos in the picture to the left. A gentle giant Great Dane at 160 lbs. Our first one was 40# heavier and 4 inches taller. I never let any of them stand up on anybody but me. At which point I picked them UP---- ( we have had 6 Danes) to make sure they knew who the top dog was.

Seems we don't bounce much once we hit 60. Glad your doing well after your unexpected flight. If that had been me and my poor battered body I probably would have asked for the 1911

Or, you don't need a parachute to skydive. You DO need one to skydive twice.

Squeaked out a mere 350'ish miles, tired and sore as all he77.

My bride decided to join the failed flight crowd, getting off the trike at Dennies Sports Bar she stepped in a pothole and went over backwards. I'll say this, Thank GOD she still had her helmet on, because her head made an ungodly thunk when she hit the ground! She will also have a nice bruise on her backside.

I looked over her helmet and cannot find a mark on it, still not going the chance it being ok, so I just ordered her a new HJC replacement.

Good move on the helmet. The general consensus is...a helmet that takes a fall to the pavement, specially a hard one, should be replaced.

A few months back my girl friend's sister fell in the kitchen, and blacked out for a second. I told my g.f. let's get her to the emergency room right now. My g.f. said she's okay now, and I said you get your a$$ into the car right now we're taking her to the emergency room. They found she had a hematoma and her sister had to stay in the hospital for a few days until they dissolved it. I don't want to tell you what would have happened if we'd not taken her to the hospital when we did. I would take your bride to be checked. It sounds like an uncontrolled fall with no time to brace herself.

Didja see the you-tube vid of the bloke who completed the first planned jump from 25,000 feet WITHOUT a parachute... & walked away from it?! I think this is the one...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPC_h9Vmlxw

    or was it this one??

    Or maybe this??

Regardless, it's gutsy play, even if a bit silly - & apparently the first 2 were just to get his name in the record books?!
