17RTL Top Box Strut - Re-gas or replace
I've read thru the assorted posts about the option to re-gas the struts on the Spyder.
Is the quality of the OEM strut such that re-gassing is worthwhile, or in your opinion, am I better to go aftermarket (if the OEM strut is junk I am happy to send it to the bin)?
What has been the lifespan of either option for you?
Mine has thrown its legs in the air and I'm trying to decide which way is better if either option is.
PS - I measured the weight as 10grams - this seems awfully lightAll dwgs drawings.jpg

Askitee, I have the same Spyder and I have a rack on the trunk that I use to carry my Pet Palace for my 12 lb dog.
My gas strut would not hold up the trunk lid, so I bought this from Can Am spyder accessories.Com
It will hold the lid open even with the Pet Palace mounted on it. I still have the factory strut too, so it helps to keep the lid from slamming shut. Hope this helps you out.

I just replaced the strut on my wife's '17 RT-S. Got it through Amazon, would have to look up the order to see exactly what the model is. It definitely works better than the one that was removed. If I had found that I needed a bit more lifting power, I was going to order up a second set of mounting hardware and mount the old strut on the other side. That has not yet been necessary.
Oh, ... nothing added to the trunk lid to add any weight except the ShowChrome Accessories light module.

Thanks for information of where to purchase, but can anyone tell me how to get to the bottom of the strut to disconnect the old strut on a 2012 RT?
