    Default great oil drain pan

Others probably found this or know this already, but while getting my oil for my first DIY oil change effort, I saw this oil drain pan at my local O'reilly's auto parts store. It is called the "Less Mess drain pan" and is 21" X 11" x 4" deep. It covered both drain areas under our 2014 RTL spyder completely. It holds 11 Qts of used oil (not that we need that !) Anyway....just in case you are looking or need a new one or just want one.....

That is the pan I've used from the git-go for my Spyder. It used to be sold by Pep Boys but when they got out of that business O'Reilly picked it up. Very convenient to just set it and forget it with the two 1330 engine drain plugs. I use it with the 3 gallon recycle can. My only wish is that the pour spout for the pan was a little better.

    Question

    .enlarged access to drain plugs

    Say Ray,
If you have a Dremel tool or the like, cutting out the area around the drain plugs really helps. I enlarged the openings to about double the size. Make the job much easier and less messy. Gold drain plugs too, and not too tight.

I must be dense. (And no, I'm not going to start a poll)
I went to O'Reilly's site to search for "Less Mess Drain Pan". I get 7 results and none of them are for an oil change.

I just use a plastic 2 gallon oil bottle with the side cut out. Unscrew the cap and dump it in the used oil bucket.

That is a really good idea, especially since I haven't done my own oil changes...yet.

Right on Fish, my thing is to pour the used oil into an empty oil container and return it for the recycle, so the drain pan must have a proper pour spout to avoid the mess.

I agree... I don't like to nor want to transfer to a bottle then to the recycle bin... I been using this Harley drain pan for my last 3 bikes (Venture, Harley and F3) and will continue... Let the Flaming Begin...... LOL

I do not pour my used oil back into the empty bottles. I have several 5 gallon buckets which did contain hydraulic fluid or oil for tractors and farm equipment. The buckets have lids with a screw on cap of about 2 inch diameter. I have funnels that fit the buckets perfectly. I pour the used oil into the buckets and when I have 4 or 5 gallons of used oil, I take it in to the auto supply store for recycling.

Pouring used oil back into the small bottles could be a problem. Pouring the used oil into the five gallon buckets using a funnel is no problem.
