I finally broke down and bought a manual, all is ok
I need to replace a right-side saddlebag latch. Anyone who has performed this repair that can give me some help??
I should probably buy a shop manual unless there is a free one somewhere on this site.
thanks johnv

You have to remove the saddlebag from the bike. After that is very easy and obvious to replace the latch. Remove the top cover and you'll see the screws that hold the saddlebag to the frame. It is basically hanging on rails and after removing the screws and the plastic pushpin at the bottom it will slide outward and off. There's a disconnect for the taillight.

Thank you for the reply Jetfixer. I finally broke down and bought a manual. It was a fairly easy job, now the wait on parts. Do you by chance know how to replace the keylock ??.

That's a little tricky. At the end of the key barrel furthest from the key, there is a locking tab. Put the key into the barrel and leave it at the unlock position. From the interior (lower) side, you may have a small cover to remove to gain access to this locking tab. You'll need to use a small pick or flat blade screwdriver to push down on the locking tab and then remove the key barrel. When you reverse this procedure to install the key barrel on a new latch handle, make sure that this locking tab "clicks" into place. This photo is from a RT service manual, but the lock barrels are the same.

As it turns out you can purchase the latch assembly for about $35. It comes pre-assembled and is a very easy install. Anyone who needs to replace the latch contact me via a PM and I will gide you through the procedure.
thanks Johnv
