Exceeding Your Expiration Date
I know that many folks here are up there in age and with that comes a plethora of health issues for some.
Curious, anyone been told by Doctors or medical experts that they had only so long to live, yet exceeded that and continue on for a long time after?
Thereby exceeding their expiration date.

I never had a doctor tell me, but according to my life style, I exceeded my expiration date by approxmately 10 years.

In the mid 60's I was told by my parents/grandparents, and a doctor, that for whatever reason I seemed to have missed my expiration date. Since that period in life, I've been reminded numerous times by a number of individuals that my expiration date expired years ago and that I'm on browed time at present. I thank GOD very much for the extended time.

While entertaining to read some posts, guess the experience of hearing you have so long to live from a doctor will be a new moment for some of you.

With my lifestyle. I exceeded expectations when I made my 21st birthday. At 24 I had 3 orthopedic surgeons tell me that I wouldn't last 30 days if I went back to work at the fire department. I retired from that department after I turned 53.
We have our expectations and there are plenty of 'Experts' telling us how far we can expect to go. But only God knows. We are all on his timetable. Everything else is just speculation.

Mind boggling question
Why am I still here? Good question. I haven't always been cautious. I haven't always been good. I haven't always been skilled. I have seen others that I thought were more adept expire. So, what's with me still being here? Maybe there is at least one more person yet to be influenced/inspired by me? Or, I have something more to contribute? Only He knows..... Jim

Passed my best before date back in my 20s. Don't have a bar code yet. Going to be around until the Maple Leafs win their next Stanley Cup.

Yup. Was told by 3 doctors when I was between the age(s) of 30-36 that I would not see the age of 45 if continued down the road I was on. Had to stop smoking, drinking, and cut way down on the caffeine. At 30 I was in the Navy, smoking approx 3 packs a day, drinking 20-25 cups of great navy coffee, and of course the alcohol was always my best friend when I wasn't at work. I am now 72.

Ain't that the truth!! Sooooooo, I am going to just keep going till I can't.
As a side note, I just had a get together with my siblings. I am the oldest by 11 yrs and even with a triple by-pass and pacemaker I seem to be the healthiest. Makes you wonder.

Same here. Based on just what I did during the decade of my 20s, I'm well past my expiration date!

based on my geneology ( my great grandfather died at 32,my grandfather at 46, and my father at 59) I was sure I would be gone by 66, but I am still here at 76. Miracles never cease.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely,
In a pretty and well preserved body.
But rather skid it in a broadslide in a cloud of smoke thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming.

Well, I didn't, but my father did, I was told to notify all of the family and prepare for him to die in a week. Even had hospice come in for the final days.
He perked up and lived 8 more years.
