Default Make flag mounting system for RTs (cheap)

I will preface this with an explanation as to where I got the original idea. I attended a SpyderFever Rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa a few years back. ChicoFowler put flags on the ryder leaders using colored flags, a fiberglass rod, part of a leather belt, and a cable tie holder and small bolt and nut.

I changed Chico's idea a little bit after some experimenting and usage.

Pic 1 shows the flags and posts in use. The posts are fiberglass rods that were for a chimney cleaner.
I bought them from a hardware store named Menards. I glued a couple of fancy knobs of the tops for the finals that I had laying around. They also keep the flags from coming off the top in the wind. You could use decorative nuts instead.

Pic 2 shows the two screws that were replaced with longer one. I got them at a local hardware store. They are chrome plated instead of the oem ones that were black. I had to use longer screws due to the thickness of the leather. The leather straps is from a belt cut to shape and length. I got the belt from a local goodwill store (real cheap). This is different method than what Chico uses. He has to flatten the leather a bit with hammer or ? to allow the shorter screws to work.

Pic 3 shows the method of keeping the flag from slipping down on the post. I used a O ring to start with but noticed the ring would slip down over time, so I put a few wraps of electrical tape under the O ring. It has been working okay for several years.

Pic 4 shows where I originally had the bottom part of the post secured to the license plate (Chico's method). But it was to much and the plate started to bend. One could solve this issue by placing a metal strap behind the license plate or perhaps using a fender washer.

Pic 5 So I drilled two holes in my trailer hitch and used some L brackets This very secure and it dropped the flags down so the were not catching as much wind.

In pic #2 do the straps put any pressure on the trunk lid when you close it?
