Post Extended Warranty Purchasing Advice Needed

I just recently purchased a 2022 Spyder Sea To Sky model on August 1st.
I have a few questions about extended warranty.
Is it best to buy the extended warranty off the dealership where you purchased your Spyder?
Do the prices vary from dealer to dealer?
Will all dealers honor the warranty no matter who you buy it from?
    Need your advice please.

    1) only if they give you a good price otherwise shop around.
    2) Yes check around iMotorsports has a great price, and there are others
    3) Yes esp if it is the BEST warranty. You can buy that any time before your factory expires. I had one from Zurich because my factory had expired when I bought my Spyder, but it was honored by other dealers.

Besides what Poster #2 said ...... IMHO I would wait until your OEM warranty was close to expire ..... Why ? - well if you sell the Spyder next year or so you won't have even used the BEST warranty yet ..... .....Mike

Get the price from Imotorsports and ask your local dealer if they will match or come close to the number.
I was able to get the match from my dealer without any push-back.
Just me, but I feel if I ever need to use the warranty, I MAY get better response from the guy who sold me the RT & Ext warranty.

    All good advice above.

Dealers can charge what they want for the warranty. That is their extra "sweetener" (for them) when they make the sale. Some are more greedy than others. Seen $671 to over $2K for the same three year warranty. You can categorize your dealer.

"BEST" from BRP is the way to go.

Does not have to be purchased at time of sale. You have until the two year original warranty is up. You must purchase before expiration of OEM warranty. Don't let the dealer try to talk you into a NON BRP Warranty. You will run into issues with other dealers willing to honor it. I would also NOT buy a dealer "service" contract. More "sweetner" for the dealer. A lot of dealers are actually trying to get out of "servicing" these days. They will tell you many weeks to make an appt. Bring it in and it may sit for weeks or month's "before they can get to it." Another warning sign of a bad dealer.

BK is also right on the money with waiting until the last minute. Why pay for something two years in the future? The only "caveat" is that the price may not be as good from the "good guys" two years down the road. So far, the good price has been effect for at least five years that I know of.

I bought my 2020 RTL in October 2020 from a dealer in mid-illinois. I just purchased my 3 year BEST extended warrenty last month (September) for $671 from Imotorsports.

When i read these threads, and they come up several X’s a year, i always wonder how many spyder owners actually were able to use the extended warranty during the 3 year warranty period. Anyone?

Well for me, only two times. The savings was more than the cost. So a good choice for me.

I have used it twice now. Would have cost me far more than the price I paid from IMotorsports. If I had never used it (for me) it would have still been worth the cost just for the peace of mind knowing it was there.

    Hope this helps

An interesting comment Jake. Extended warranties are a "crap-shoot" at best. They are extra profit extenders for the dealers. The pricing is open for the dealer to charge the customer X, Y, or Z. In most cases, the extended warranties are never used, or are minimally used.

Now the Catch 22. Spyders are much better than the earlier versions (IMO). There are fewer "lemons" out there now than there has seemed to be in the past. That said, Spyders are NOT cheap to fix. Anything not covered by warranty can be killer for some people. Hence, the extra security that they bring to mind.

Me: I have NEVER bought the extended warranty. This is over a lifetime of seven Spyders. I got a "free" two year extended warranty on my 2014 1330. Never needed to use it. Kept it six years and 46K miles. I have thrown the dice, and, so far, no issues. My current F3's are now out of OEM warranty. I did not up for the extended.

Jake, you must remember that a “warranty” is just another name for “insurance”. While you have a “mortgage” on your home, you must maintain insurance. Until your Spyder is fully paid off, you must maintain insurance. The strange part of this is that when your “warranty “ expires you don’t “have to” maintain the warranty. The majority usually maintain house insurance, but do NOT consider or at best, question the necessity of an “extended warranty). Why is that? Because it is for most, only a toy?

I'm one of the blokes whose B.E.S.T. extended warranty expired unused. My parking brakes motor was replaced about a year after I bought the bike when it was still under factory warranty. Would I do it again? Based on what I've read about the 2020-2022 MYs yes. I know it's a crap shoot. I hope to get at least 150K out of my '14 RT-S and I'm working on 82K now. Pandemic has eaten into my annual mileage.

If I had bought my spyder New I would have purchased the extended warranty. It sure paid off when I bought a 3 year extended warranty on my 2009 Yamaha Raider Motorcycle, at 51,000 miles rear wheel bearing froze up and did $1,500.00 worth of damage, have no idea what the labor charges to fix would have been. I purchased said warranty from a 3rd party for less than from dealer.

I just bought the BEST WARRANTY from Tom at Imotorsports (630-634-8428) for my 2021 F3 Spyder today. The price of 671.00 is still good. Very easy process. Have your VIN and a payment option. It took less than 5 mins. You are sent a email conformation while on the phone.
