Default So I did a thing... now my wife owns a 2020 Spyder RTL!

Last Friday I boarded a plane Atlanta to St. Louis and purchased a 2020 Spyder RTL. The owner picked me up at the airport, we drove to his house and did the deal. I immediately hopped aboard and drove 600 miles in 9.5 hours having never been on a trike before. This was a gift for my wife. I am a 2 wheel guy and will continue to be one.
Things I learned on my drive home
At 6’5” I was thankful for the tall windscreen he installed.
If you put your size 15 feet too far forward on the floorboards your feet can touch the front tires
The cup holder the previous owner installed is not a front brake lever and will not stop the bike if you squeeze it
Learned you can “stand up” while riding down the highway. You may look silly but it gives your butt a break
There is a learning curve going from 2-3 wheels. Especially around curves.
I am now on the hunt for a new rear tire, sway bar and mirror locks.
Looking forward to being part of this forum.

Default Welcome to the Spyder Forum

....Welcome to the Spyder Forum. Nice choice for a ryde. Man, that's a wonderful experience for learning about and ryding a Spyder. Not many people are ready for that kind of action. You are right about the 'learning curve'.

I hope she will enjoy the Spyder. Someday you might want to have a second Spyder.

Welcome to the forum Allgood!! To your wife on her new to her 2020 Spyder RTL. You can find lots of good information here in the different areas of the forum.

    Mirror locks: https://www.lamonstergarage.com/lamo...-mirror-locks/

Swaybar: https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...rs-amp-Helmets I do recommend that you call Ron about the new sawybar option, his number is listed on his web page.

Tires: Do a search here using the search box top right side, because there are a lot of options that are much better than OEM tires. So do some research here on that subject.

Congrats on the new Spyder and kudos on your maiden voyage with the three wheels! I applaud your assessment of the next maintenance items and hope your wife enjoys the ryde as well as my wife enjoys her Spyder (s). We travel better with each riding our own, and I enjoy keeping up with the basic oil and tire changes. I likewise feel the need to "air out" and rise up when going through speed zones in little towns along the way..

Congrats on your new purchase. 600 miles for your first ride is certainly taking the plunge. Good job! The mirror locks and sway bar absolutely work.

That is how I bought my 2021 RT base I hopped on a plane to Alabama , the owner was kind enough to lend me his plate ,( I insured the bike prior up to pickup). I jumped on the bike and drove 953 mile, non stop, in 25 hours . The bike seat was comfortable and the ride great.

    Enjoy the new bike.
