Default Should we purchase this Extended Warranty for 2022 RT?

My partner just put money down on a new Spyder RT. I'm wondering if she should buy the three year extended warranty for $1200? I am mechanically inclined. I fix everything myself and was an equipment mechanic for 35 years. Not very worried about the mechanical stuff but wonder more about the electronics. Thanks for everyone's opinion.

Just something to remember.....you can purchase the BEST extended warranty ANYTIME during the life of the factory warranty. ANYTIME! You cannot purchase the BEST warranty once the factory warranty has expired, soooo, you do NOT have to decide at the time of purchase of your Spyder, you can wait a while.

And that price is nowhere near the cheapest price you can get the BEST (BRP/Can Am backed ) warranty for, either! If you search, there's lotsa references to the right person to call at iMotorsports - do that & tell them you are a member of this SpyderLover's Forum; you should be able to get exactly the same thing for just a tad over 1/2 of that $1200 dealer's inflated price!

Not at that price. You can buy the BRP B.E.S.T. warranty from Dave at Sierra Cycles in Arizona for $671.00. You can buy it at any time your original 24-month warranty is in effect. If your dealer won't match that price, tell him thanks, but no thanks; and call Dave after you take delivery. Just have your VIN and credit card when you call.

with the others above .... especially the $631.00 ..... and is the warranty that dealer is offering really a " free maintenance plan" .... if so, I'm 99% sure it will have to be performed at THAT dealer .... good luck ... Mike

I bought the RPM1 3-year extension for around $800 (on my NEW bike, not the OLD one). (I don't know what the availability is nowadays, though.) And I did collect much more value in covered repairs (including labor) than the premium cost me. Those electronic modules can get VERY expensive!

There is also a very notable difference in the terms: the BEST is non-refundable, and stays with the vehicle when you sell it. You can only negotiate your value with the buyer (and I only got HALF my remaining value back, when trading my OLD bike in). But the RPM1 can be canceled for a pro-rated refund if you sell the vehicle in less than 5 years.

At least, that was the terms I got 7 years ago...

Also another dealer that you may want to check on price is iMotorsports in Illinois. They are a sponsor here on the forum. I always try to give my money to a sponsor on Spyderlovers. Their price was 671.00 for 3 years. Talk to Tom Palmer and he will fix you up.

    with what is said above.

BEST warranty from BRP is the best one.

As long as you buy it before the original 2 year warranty expires, you are good to go. If you are not "financing" the warranty, best to wait almost two years.

The couple dealers mentioned still have the extra three years for $671. Extra warranties are a cash cow for most dealers. Some are greedier than others. I have heard dealers trying to charge $1700. It's your money, it's your choice.

I got a "free" three years when I bought my 2014 RT-S. Never had to use it. I have not bought the extra warranty for any of my 7 Spyders. Never needed it. However...I am one of the "lucky" ones. Things do happen to Spyders. When things go wrong, they will cost you a lot. Once again...it's your money...it's your choice.

Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.

BRP has a proprietary computer system (BUDS) and very few independent shops invest in that system. When something needs doing on the bike that requires accessing BUDS, the dealers have you by the you know whats......And they charge accordingly. I would purchase the extended warranty when buying the bike. It is fully transferable if you do sell so adds value. And I don't think the price will be going down in the future. I had occasion to use my extended warranty 3 times and EACH time the bill would have exceeded the cost for the warranty. Good luck..... Jim

My RPM1 warranty service was always and only with my selling dealer, and included BUDS whenever necessary. In fact, it was this dealer who sold me the RPM1.

I have to throw my hat in the ring with others and advise going with the BEST warranty. As others have pointed out, that $1,200 price tag the dealership is offering is way off the mark.

I'm sorry, but what with working exclusively on a small screen device atm and being waay over here where I live in Oz, nowhere near any of those iMotorsports dealers, I can't really narrow that down for you any more right now (it's hard enough just typing! )

BUT, there are a couple of names associated with iMotorsports selling the BEST warranty's to Spyderlovers members more often than not, so it might help to just search the Forum for 'iMotorsports' (you can enter that in the search box up in the top right of the page; or you can even do that search thru goggle if you start your search string with 'site:spyderlovers.com' to restrict it to just this site... ) then do a quick read of some of the resulting threads returned to see if you can identify the people concerned - their names & IIRC also their phone contact details have been shared here fairly often. Maybe someone else will remember &/or be able to help/share that info with you??

And once you do get the right contact details, don't forget to say you're a member here - helps us, helps them too!

I am fixin to call Tom and get the warranty on my 2020 RT. I never used to buy extended warranties until I had some warranty work done on my Acura. To see the cost of just the parts is hard to take but the labor costs are even worse. For $671, that would probably be one trip to the dealer for anything that broke.

As a retired person from the repair industry and the many changes that have come about, I also purchased my 1st ever extended warranty for the Spyder.

However, be aware that that very good deal price can and no doubt will go up at some point with any increase in inflation. I am impressed that it is still holding, thanks to BRP.

Thank you all for replying. I called Tom Palmer and got a price of $671. We're picking up the bike tomorrow and I'm going to talk to the sales people about that $1200 price and if they won't match the $671 I'll be buying from imotorsports. I'm 73 and this too will be my first extended warranty. I'm hoping I wasted my money and won't need it.
