Default Watching Das Boot on tv.....

I originally thought I was watching it on Netflix, but I don't think it's there. In a nutshell it's a WW II movie with emphasis on the German U boats. What I found interesting is that during my high school years we went deep into American History and World history equally. During this movie they get into the German-American Bund. I never heard of them, or maybe I forgot, or worse yet I fell asleep when that was covered. In any case I googled it to see what I had missed during my high school years. If Das Boot is not on Netflix, it should get there at some point. I'm watching it on SBS, which is out of Australia. I got to say, it is a pretty good tv series.

There are actually a number of different cuts of Das Boot, both as a film and as mini-series, with some additional home video edits. More info here:

A very good movie shown from the perspective of the German side.

Have watched it a few times. Have always liked the war movie genre.

I've seen Das Boot several times and found each viewing very interesting. I grew up in New London, CT and a number of my friends' fathers were highly decorated WW II submarine commanders.

    otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

I'm actually watching the tv series. The third season just ended, and there will be a 4th. I'm not sure how close the movie and tv series compare, but there were times I actually felt sorry for some of the German characters, and I'm not specifically talking those who were being persecuted at the time. I know that may sound kind of strange.

I think that's the point - a person can be evil, but that doesn't make every cell in their body evil. I have great pity for many of the Russians who are being sent to the Ukraine, and I would like to see as few of them die as possible in a Ukrainian victory.
