Anyone using these OEM Oil drain plugs with hex head?
Have read here that some aftermarket hex head replacement oil drain plugs have broken off. Some say it’s because the thread wall is not thick enough because of the magnet. Some say it’s due to over tightening. Saw this OEM one below on a Google search. Comparing pictures of the Show Chrome and this one, it seems the magnet is thicker in the Show Chrome. Anyone using this OEM plug?

When these re-placement plugs appeared on the market There seemed to be more Failures with the DIMPLE Brand ( I don't think they are made now ) ..... and the failures were due to a too thin thread wall or overtightening which damaged the Alloy Pan ... I don't recall the HEX insert plug being an issue just the engine bolt type ..... JMHO .... Mike

Lamonster has these on his website, think they are called 'gold plugs', set matches exactly what you need, reasonably priced as I recall. For me, the OEM plugs were a real pain.

I posted because this is an OEM part. It is available from the dealer. Upon doing a search it fits all 3 cylinder from 2014 to 2022. Here is a link. Was curious if this part just became available or was out there for a while.

Less than $20 for both Gold Plugs vs. $41 for a single. Gold plugs have a good rep.

I been using the Gold plugs since the first oil change @ 600 miles. Never had a problem. Over tightening is the main cause of stripped threads or broken plugs.
Used hex head magnetic plugs in the primary drain of Harley Sportster for 350,000 miles before I bought the Spyder. Never a problem with it either.

I bought these Magnetic Drain Plugs from www.lamonstergarage.com
They work great so far. I believe the trick is NOT to use "gorilla torque".
Plus, Lamont seems like a standup guy and wouldn't sell any jenky merchandise he doesn't believe in.

That is the trick. I don't torque at all. I use a fiber sandwich washer and just snug it up with a shorty 3/8 ratchet.
Brand new washer every time.
