Out on a ride and lost power between engine and the belt
We're riding through Ouray Colorado when the spider suddenly lost drive power and started making a rapid thumping noise. We got it trailored back to our hotel. Mechanic thinks it could be the recall.

Did you had the interim check done by the dealer, there is an interim solution, where they measure the width between the teeth of the sprocket, so they could tell if there's premature wear....
it's part of the recall, mine is measured, all within spec, nothing to worrie about, till proper solution comes
the funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it........

was the bike in gear when you made that video?

Does this video match the 2015 to 2019 sprocket recall?
I was pulling onto the highway when the spider lost power and made an ugly sound. I makes noise every time I tried to throttle up in gear. There was just a tiny bit of drive power if I throttled up very slowly, but then it would start buzzing again. The mechanic isn't sure if it's the recall or not and can't get me in for nearly a month. He said they don't have parts to fix it yet anyway.

I'd say there is about a 100% chance your front drive pulley spun on the output shaft. Which means you have a better than 80% chance the output shaft is also toast. BRP definitely needs to up their game on this.
25K+ is going to be a hard sell if you can't trust the drive train. And I'm sorry. No excuses. Owners have been spinning drive pulley's since 2008.

100% guarantee it is the sprocket! I've heard that sound several time!! Most likely you have over 15,000. You can't order a replacement sprocket from BRP ( I tried so I could have a spare). Local dealer can't get the part either. He suggested to wait to see what the permanent fix is.
There is a guy on the forum from Canada that has a sprocket for sale (old part number) but it would get you running again. Or look on Ebay.
It is any easy change that takes less than an hour ( I've had to do this three times).
God bless those who serve/served our country!

That is only going to work if his output shaft isn't damaged, that would be a whole different story. Take off the tupperware and inspect the sprocket yourself, it is easy to see; if you lift the rear wheel of the ground and turn it, look to see if the sprocket and output shaft are moving together - if there is slack between the two, then you are in for a costly repair...
Do not let the engine run in gear any more before you check, cause you could easily damage more...
I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's only the sprocket, but hearing the sound on your video, I am with Dave on this one

You keep saying you 'lost power', implying the engine lost power or went into limp mode. Is it more accurate to say the Spyder's drive train failed in some way because it seems the engine is producing power okay.
Just wondering. I'm kinda anal / literal.

That's how I took it. I believe the engine was still making power, but there was little or no forward propulsion.
Which leads me to believe that the sprocket is toast ........ which can be a good thing since it's an easier fix than some serious engine issues.
