Fuel drips out vent hose

Hi, I have a 2011 Spyder RT Se5 that had surging and a strong smell of fuel when shut off. We have performed the purge valve canisterectomy and ran the vent hose with fuel filter to the front of the unit. The procedure corrected the surging. The bike has under half tank of fuel and each time after a short run I notice a couple drops of fuel out the vent hose when shut off. Is this normal or do I have another issue.

If the gas tank is Totally full , a small GAS overflow is common and if it then expands due to heat it's worse .... I did NOT remove my cannister just re-routed the hoses a bit .... never had a n issue....and I ALWAYS fill to the tank lip .... Mike

If you're getting raw fuel drip out of the vent hose and you've run it to the front, I'd be more'n a bit concerned!! That could mean raw fuel dripping (or maybe running!!) onto hot engine or exhaust parts!!

You URGENTLY NEED to fix your vent line positioning and probably the fuel filter too!! Mike is right in that if you fill the gas tank, then some overflow is quite likely, so his idea of re-routing the tube up & over then back down into the cannister isn't such a bad one! But if you want to toss the cannister, then ideally your vent line will go UP initially, preferably with at least one coil of tubing in it close to the highest spot it reaches (to form a vapour lock/overflow trap) - two loops is better if you have enough tubing &/or length; before dropping back DOWN to the bottom or rear of the bike to let any vapour or drips open air away from anything hot OUT THE BACK OF THE Spyder (ie. opposite side to the exhaust!)

And any filter you put in the vent line needs to be metal or gauze, maybe fibreglass, but definitely NOT paper! . Once those (cheap ) paper element filters get 'wet' (water or gas) in this sort of application they pretty much turn into pulp, and can either harden into a solid paper mache plug stopping the vent action entirely or get sucked back into the tank & clog up things in there, maybe even causing some really expensive damage as they do!! (Think 'replace fuel pump' or if you're really unlucky, maybe even worse 'replace engine' type expensive!! )

So if you're seeing drips at the FRONT of your Spyder/ahead of the engine/exhaust, you gotta do something NOW!

Exactly correct! It must loop above the highest level of gas in the Spyder.
