    Default 2014 ST - 127K Miles @ $5K OBO - Consider or Run Away?

I came across a 2014 STSMS ABS for sale, with high mileage, and was wondering if I should even consider it.
The price is low and I am new to Spyders.
    What say you?

If you're someone who relies exclusively on others to maintain your bike, you'd be taking a big risk.

While I am quite happy with my 12 RT at 74,000 miles I can luckily do many things myself. I would be leery of turning it over to someone who didn't spin their own wrenches. Oil changes on that machine come every 4500 miles, it is going to need a valve adjustment probably soon and may or may not need other expensive work soon. Can you get an aftermarket warranty on it?

But even so, it does look to be a pretty cheap price.... I wonder what's wrong with it??

Just as an aside for a moment, most 'still registerable' Spyders here in Oz are going for somewhat more'n that - even well used 2008 GS Models that are showing signs of becoming a bit long in the tooth are moving at $7-8k plus, many closer to $10k; any thing of the same age as that one ^^ that even vaguely qualifies as being in good nick is probably well over $10k, if not mid teens or up! But then, vehicle prices of any sort here are pretty stupid atm - there's not too many brand new cars coming in, so owners of recently purchased new vehicles are being offered anything up to double the price they just paid to let the prospective buyer jump the queue/wait time... and good quality used vehicles (inc bikes) are getting great prices too, just so the prospective buyer doesn't hafta wait!! Not that long ago we were offered more than what we paid for our small car bought new in 2020, they weren't even interested in how many kms it'd done; and I was even offered more for my 'slightly modded' 2013 RT Ltd than I paid for it initially waayy back in 2013, and it definitely ain't no spring chicken in the milage department any more - but it does still look good, and it goes even better! Altho, if you took one of these deals, what would you replace it with?? You can't buy a new car without a looong wait, and the asking prices on used car are thru the roof!! So unless you're selling an extra, or an under utilised weekend toy....

Still, you gotta wonder about this 2014 STS.... but if it looks too good to be true, then......

Suggest you take a test ride at a dealership. (Riding Class if available)Let them show you few things & check their maintenance prices, ask about alignments (laser preferred &not always available). Ask if they can/will mount car tires. Could be great machine for you (IF) willing to grow. The engine is happy at higher RPM will take some getting use to. Hopefully has good maintenance logs & if you can get the VIN# the dealer can check it against recalls & such might even been serviced there, & can tell you more.

Just for those who may not realise, that's cos the 1330 Triple Cylinder motors have a longer oil life/less frequent change schedule than the 990 series V-Twins.

The 2014 ST that's the subject of the 1st post quoted above & this thread (plus any other ST, RS, RSS, or GS Spyders too ) will have the V-Twin motor. The high revving, high performance V-Twin motors are harder on their oil (and usually 'use' up to a quart or so between scheduled services too ) than the lazier, lower revving 1330 Triple motors.... so the V-Twin Oil change schedule calls for a change about twice as often as that of the 1330 Triple cyl motors.
