 Dealer claimed they couldn't release my Spyder if it failed the sprocket wear test!
I called one of the local dealerships and asked about bringing my Spyder in for the initial sprocket inspection. I was told I could bring it in, but if it failed the inspection they could not release it until they received replacement parts. He claimed it was a safety issue.

I had mine checked today and I was told the same thing, luckily mine passed.

Just called Nielsens in Lake Villa IL, who said if yours fails you would have to leave it there till parts came in...

That’s standard operating procedure for every safety recall notice I’ve ever been involved with. Either they have the new replacement part in stock and the repair is done immediately or in the world we live in today, we wait for the replacement part to be delivered on a as needed basis. I hope your wait time is short.

If they released it knowing that it failed the test, then they just set themselves up for a liability suite. So, I understand this also.

I'd tell them it is my bike, I'm taking home, and if they want a waiver of liability, lay it on the table.

It is why I checked if they had the "temporary fix" parts in stock before I brought mine in... otherwise I would've been 3 hours from home without a ride!

I fail to see how a dealer can legally hold your property if you sign a document releasing them from liability.

That was just a temporary fix. Nobody knows what the permament fix is yet.

I replaced my Sprocket to the white one because I got that whooping sound at low speeds. And it was the white one. Can't imagine having to replace it again because of the recall.
