Default Lost Keys but got new Ignition and DESS - need programming or will it work?

My son lost the keys to his F3. I was able to get an ignition switch and DESS. Will I have to have it programmed or will it work after I install it?

If you didn't have the " orange screen of death " ie. DESS module Failure .... then I think you were scammed by the dealer ..... JMHO .... Mike

Well it doesn't matter. Shop I ordered from couldn't find the parts so they refunded my money. Thanks everyone for the help.

So if you're still going to be using the original DESS & Ignition Switch, any good locksmith should be able to cut a key to suit; but even in that case you'll need to get the key programmed, & probably only a KNOWLEDGEABLE BRP Dealer could do that!!

Still, if you don't have ANY key at all now, you might need to get that DESS Module with a couple of keys to match anyway!! . The ignition barrel itself is just something that takes a key & any good locksmith who wants to bother should be able to sort out something - it's the DESS module that does the Security & Immobilising, and that can be a pain!!

    Good Luck!

Another reason to have the DESS module deactivated.

I believe the Dess module decodes the key and send a signal to the ECU to start the Spyder.
