    Since there's no spring, what is the risk of breaking the base with the stiff antenna?

    Dunno about the 'risk' as a number per se... . but I have seen a few of those OE Antennae broken, usually just above the springy bit (& so rendering the antenna even more useless than they are when they leave the factory! ) and as yet I've NEVER seen any of those stubby Rubber Ducky type replacement Antennae broken!

    So you know where I'd put my money if I was to bet on which would break first!

    Has anyone replaced the OEM antenna? Did it improve the radio reception?
