    Default Windshields burning Rykers?

I came across this on YouTube today. I don't know if there is any correlation between any particular brand windshield or not but thought I'd share it anyway. Just as a heads up.

Odd yes & under right conditions possible. Thing there was a post of similar “burn” on a RT that was left parked outdoors at dealer for services & some how additional windows reflections from buildings & or other, caused issues vaguely familiar

If this is in fact a fact, I'm gonna surmise it is only happening to Rykers parked outside uncovered. I would suspect it would take some small amount of time for the suns rays to be concentrated on a specific place on the windshield and then be focused on the frunk.

Looks like a PUIG issue that doesn't include the OEM shields ...

I suppose the shield angle would have a lot to do with it.

Makes me thankful the Earths magnetic field was figured into the design specs.

I have a Puig windshield and it doesn't look anything like the one In the video. Mines the smaller style like the one sold at LaMonster Garage.

I had a similar thing happen where an aluminum plate reflected sunlight onto a deck box causing the plastic to distort. I think what actually happens is when the sunlight reflects off of certain surfaces its electromagnetic frequency changes so that a greater percentage of the light is in the infrared range, or heat range. I know if I get my face in the sunshine reflected off of the aluminum floor of my pull behind m/c trailer it is much hotter than facing the sun directly.

You know what really burns my butt?

(black leather seat sittin in the sun) <G>

Not a new problem though. Wasn't that long ago they had to close down streets around a new high rise in (Dallas?) due to excessive heat concentrated by curved glass some designer thought would be kewl, eh. Seems to me they ended up having to resurface the entire building.

I am wondering if they installed these and had the plastics touching at an angle while parked. Not all plastics play well together. Some will melt, look like burn marks and distort the plastic. THis was a common issue with PEZ dispensers that were mixed in a box. Also that little band at the bottom of the windshield on the first one they showed, if it is rubber it will sometimes melt plastics. Funny that it is only the frunks getting melted and not the side panels. Something odd there.

From the picture they showed of the windshield, it's a taller style windshield that has a curve from top to bottom. I'm guessing the curve was concentrating the sunlight when the sun's almost directly overhead and causing the melting.
