Default CRUISE CONTROL - if sticky try this

I'm having some issues with my 14 RT CRUISE CONTROL .... Sometimes it releases after hitting a Bump and then I can't reset it ..... Well I discovered if you push the LEVER - UP that works also ..... I have always pushed it down to engage. When the Cruise is working the LEVER will either accelerate slowly or slow the bike down and remain at the speed you choose ..... Mike

    Same problem here with BUMPS.
I typically give a quick tap on the brake and at least on mine that corrects it. Although I do need to reSET the point.
    BTW
Spyders are not the ONLY ones that have that problem.
My 2008 Road King, and 2010 Electra Glide suffered from a similar gremlin.

Yes, pushing up resumes while pushing down sets the speed. So Mike, all this time you've been resetting your cruise speed rather than resuming. We never stop learning with these machines.

Also, once the cruise is set, if you want to increase the cruising speed press up or press down to decrease the cruising speed.

Also good basic "cruise control" information.

They are set up to work just like the cruise in cars or trucks. Once on, DOWN to set, braking or shifting will dis-engage the unit, UP will resume at the previous speed setting. One click UP or One click DOWN at a time will INCREASE or DECREASE the speed by one mile per hour. Holding UP or DOWN will give you the resume/set functions.

The reason it maybe releasing as the wheel sensor is not in contact with the ground while going over a bump in some cases. So it turns off the cruise control

That's probly just cos your tire pressure's too high!

Sorry. She made me do it!

However, all joking aside, getting a wheel in the air momentarily & the sudden variance of wheel sensor info will certainly turn the cruise off; as will running into a corner too quick & setting off the yaw sensor, &/or otherwise triggering the VSS or traction control in any way; but I've also noticed that on some Spyders, especially those with larger/oversized brake pedals, just hitting even a 'normal' type small road bump can cause the brake pedal to bounce, & if it does, cruise is shut down instantly! That's gotta be cos that sensitive brake micro-switch has been triggered, but it can happen so quick that there's often no corresponding flash of the brake light.... occasionally, the flash is there, but often, nada!

Still, I reckon the Cruise Control 'Slide button' switch that slides right to turn it on; left to turn it off; down to engage; & up to resume... would benefit a whole lot from being made a lot less of a long 'slide' button & more of a Left/Right, Up/Down Toggle! .

Why isn't it a toggle much like the Indicator toggle for the flashers on the Left Handgrip in the first place? Cos as it is, it's a deformed long thing that's sorta hard (at least for me & many other ryders I know ) to tell if it's it's actually moved in the manner desired when we try to operate it!! . A smaller, more raised toggle type switch like that used for the Indicators on the Left handgrip should alleviate that problem entirely, allowing one to clearly recognise by feel when the toggle moved left or right, up or down.... Probably help the switch last longer too, cos people wouldn't be repeatedly pushing it & operating it more than strictly necessary just cos they couldn't tell if they'd got it right the first time! Heck, even if they made it so it matched the Left Handgrip's Left/Right Up/Down multi-switch thingy it'd be 'more ergonomic' than the current slide button with needlessly minute & 'feel'-less up/down action!

OK, ok.... . I'm breathing deeply & slowly now, hands where you can see them, and calmly climbing down off my soap box.....

Sounds to me like there's nothing wrong with your cruise control. If it only disengages unintentionally when you hit a bump, perhaps your brake pedal spring is weak and the pedal is bouncing down momentarily. This will disengage cruise control by design. And yes, pushing up will "resume". While engaged, up will increase the speed by 1 mph, and down will decrease it by 1 mph.

Yes so all you have been doing is resetting the cruising speed, not resuming to the original setting. ARtravelers explains how to use of the cruise control perfectly.
