Default Is this Torque for rear brake caliper bolts too high?

My maintenance manual states that the torque value for the two rear caliper bolts should be 77 ft./lbs. This seems really high.

    Any comments?

When at just snug, place the palm of your dominate hand over the head of the ratchet and tighten using just that hand in that position. Never had a caliper loosen nor have I ever stripped a bolt tightening it this way. FWIW your results may vary.

Torque wrenches? Who needs them? I have a torque wrench built into my elbow. I know what good and tight feels like on any fastener.

Old school torquing. Tighten till it gets easier and then back 1/4 turn. NOT!!!!!!!!

To answer your question, yes, that is the specified torque. It happens to also be the torque for the wheel lug nuts.

I couldn't agree more. I find all this torque settings chat funny, I think some people just like to be told what to think. Bit like all the tyre pressure threads............

Obviously sone things need to have a setting, like a cylinder head bolt, or the sprocket. But for most things do it up tight enough that it won't come undone by itself, but you can undo it later.

Well, that works for some people, but some people need torque specs!! I have a friend when he helps me I give him a 1/4 drive ratchet and tell him to use two fingers!! He's a human breaker bar if you want some thing snapped OFF let him do it!!
