Default $300 Trunk Piston - glad I took the extended warranty!

Wow! Was that a lot of $$ to do it. 2020 RTL rear trunk was not staying up. First question was. Do you have a rear trunk rack? I replied, no. Next question. Do you have an extended warranty? I replied, yes. Ok, we will get one on order. Piston, shop supplies, labor, tax. $299. Glad I took the $0 option. So, nothing out of my pocket. Tom

Wow that’s crazy. I was thinking it was $78 for the shock and $10 in parts when I added one on the old series RT. That’s crazy! That or they were charging $150 in labor.

Better learn how to do that yourself. It's a common issue. Many threads about solutions on SL.

OP states 2020, I believe the 2020 RT uses different parts than the 14-19 RT. Double check

Don't remember the exact amount, but it's triple or more to replace a Spyder piece by piece - per dealer when we were talking about the prices of a couple of clips.

Iso I didn’t to offend you or direct that comment at you. I apologize if you took it that way. I was making sure tango knows to double check parts and numbers if he was to purchase since your post was for an earlier number.

BEST WARRANTY: cost for the 3 year plan is $671.00.
A Spyder would need to be less than 2 years old to qualify for the BEST....

My 2016 RTL ....... BEST WARRANTY expired in 2021. .........

Yes different piston. They keep the older pistons in stock. The replacement piston for the 2020 is different than the one that came stock. Tom

I purchased a "RPM" 7 year warranty for $2100. This will be my last Spyder. And it has better coverage that the BRP warranty, and much longer. Plus got the "0" co pay option. No money out of my pocket for 7 years. Tom

Unless the warranty covers routine maintenance and tires, or you can do most of it yourself, you are still going to be out of pocket more than $2100 over 7 years of ownership.

Sorry to burst your bubble. The extended warranty is simply "insurance" that you hope you won't need to use, like any other insurance.

That's the one I got, or had. It's a crapshoot, but if you win you save a bunch of $$$$. It was the fine print that sold me on the RPM. The exclusions can tell you where you can, or will, lose big time on a less expensive policy. $300 a year is peanuts compared to the cost of OEM parts.
