Is this 2011 Spyder RT with 12000 miles worth it?
Hi I’ve seen the Spyder above with less than 12000 miles. It would be appear to be in very good condition. The owner is overseas but the bike is being sold locally. I don’t know any of the history although all the service work has been done by a Can Am dealership.
What do you think it may be worth?

Owner overseas but being sold locally. BE VERY CAREFUL ON THIS ONE....THAT SCENARIO HAS PLAYED OUT IN SCAMS ON CRAIGLIST AND OTHER PLACES.
A 2011, regardless of miles, should go for around $10K. Accessories and miles don't count this late. We traded off our 2011 with 45K miles back in 2019 for $10,500 to a dealer on a new 2019.
If you determine this is legit, don't pass on any money until you see the bike and have the title in hand. Caveat Emptor.
Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.
Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)
MY FINAL TALLY: 7 Spyders, 15 years, 205,500 miles
IT HAS BEEN A LONG, WONDERFUL, AND FUN RIDE.

I agree with ARtraveler. Buying from an individual who isn't even present could really be a "red flag". After considering a FSBO bike ourselves, we bought a 27,000 mile, RT Limited, 2011 last year from a dealer for $12,000, just to be sure that we had someone reputable to take it back to in the event of mis-information. The dealer also gave us papers on ALL the maintenance, put in a new battery, replaced the back wheel, gave us a set of soft side luggage pieces, gave us a new Garmin Zumo, a full-sized cover and had done all the yearly maintenance on it before we picked it up, etc.. I am SO glad we had the other one "sold out from under us" before we bit on it! We may have spent more but the extras were well worth it!!!

Probably the only reason, and IMO only, I would think the owner is Overseas and their Spyder is being sold "locally" would be if the person is an enlisted individual. Still, I would approach this sale with much hesitation. Unless you can obtain PROOF, and VERIFY all information is legit and upstanding, even viewing the SPyder as well, then, and only then, I MIGHT proceed.......still with caution. With that said, I would think an asking price of 11-13k would be an okay price. Just My Opinion, of course. Best of luck in whatever your decide.......but be VERY CAUTIOUS! You don't want to get SCAMMED.

This scenario is a well-known scam, and you will be targeted for a loss if you pursue it. I could spell out the steps and show you how even the local/stateside 'seller' will take a loss if/when a sucker is located. But, for the moment, your best approach is to take the advice and run don't walk away from this tempting offer.

I would have to personally know the seller to even think of proceeding on this one. The scams can be pretty sophisticated. At the very least check the VIN number for being stolen. I still wouldn't touch it.
In addition, this is a 2011 bike, for which the current spares situation, even down to OEM tires, is a supply chain nightmare. OK, all bikes new or old can need parts, but getting Can Am to provide new parts for a current production series bike has to be more likely than getting parts for an 11 year old machine that you don't know has truly been treated. Even with 12000 miles and a service history, something 11 years old will be more prone to aging of wiring and plumbing, especially as those things ran pretty hot. Unless you do all the work yourself and are willing to source used spares off E-Bay or similar to guarantee supply, I would avoid it.
That's just me.

One thing I can tell you Dubliner is if you go to Ebay, create a username and password, you can go in and check the box showing COMPLETED LISTINGS.... that will give you an actual selling price for these machines. NOT WHAT THEY ARE ASKING BUT WHAT THEY ARE ACTUALLY SELLING FOR. Hope this helps.

In the end I bought a 2012 RT with just 12600 km. It is in excellent condition except for a broken radio aerial. It is the metallic brown colour. It came with a few accessories, floor boards and trunk liner, the roll bag and the side bags and the smaller cover. I had some trepidation about the age but I have a forty year old sidecar outfit and a thirty year old GL1500. So I’m sure I’ll get by ok.
