I had a week away on the Spyder and I was stunned. I bought fuel back home at $1.89/L and when I fuelled up for the return trip found it at $2.25/L

In Australia we have what are called price cycles. The dearest day to buy fuel (Gas) is Tuesdays, cheapest is Sundays, where it can vary as much as 20 cents per litre.
Wow! 98 Octane..... Where can I get my hands on some of that Kickapoo Joy Juice? Don't they use that stuff to get to the moon? I know it don't have any corn syrup in it at that octane. Here in South Carolicki it's $3.25 for 87 and $4.00 for 91. Add another .25 for non-ethanol.

Sorry, but Aussie, and most all of the rest of world except for US and Canada, use a different octane called RON. It's about 8 to 12 higher than the Anti Knock Index we use which is (RON + MON)/2 so askitee's 98 is closer to our 89 or 90. You might find a Google search on octane interesting.

Actually, our 98 RON is generally the Premium fuel available, and is more correctly pretty close to your 93 AKI

The table of equivalences between your North American Anti Knock Index & the our/rest of the World's RON is roughly as follows -

Your 87 AKI = Our 91 RON or Standard ULP
    Your 91 AKI = Our 95 RON
Your 93 AKI = Our 98 RON or Premium

93 is difficult to find in southwest USA.
When I had mild pinging on my 2002 Sportster 1200 Sport, I tried finding higher octane than 91, before trying octane booster.
Did not matter, as the issue was an out of spec MAP sensor.

That must have been for regular and a US gallon.
For a Imperial (CDN) gallon it is about $7:00 CDN.
91 octane is about $8:40 CDN a Imperial gallon or $7:00 CDN for a US gallon.

Default $10 fuel might be understating it

Sounds good in theory but if Peter Schiff is right the cost will be prohibitive because of the hyperinflation already built into the system. The general shortages and price increases of most things lately are a clue to where we are headed and it's only just ramping up with manufacturers holding back rising costs that must be passed on soon. General consensus is currently 15% real inflation with a steeper curve coming rapidly. Imagine energy costs to charge the battery rising in tandem with fuel prices which they will and you're no better off.
I can't see an EV Spyder being cheaper than the current crop if you compare to the car EV prices so a disincentive there to start with.
Luxury items like our Spyders are generally the first things to disappear in economic downturns so get on em and enjoy while you can because one way or another circumstances are about to change for the worse for everyone unprepared.

With Russia moving into Ukraine, the news said oil reached $100 per barrel. It has not been that price for a long time. I am guessing we will see some instant increases at the pump...as usual.

If things heat up, could $10.00 per gallon be far away?

Of course, I am hoping that I am very wrong in the prediction.

This is talking about what if? Let's keep the politics out for once.

Yesterday, saw gas at our local supermarket for $3.09 per gallon. Down a nickel from the day before. Others, $3.15 to $3.19.

Yes I have to admit the few times I've had to go back to 95 or 91 its like I'm riding with only 1 cylinder of the 3 firing or have left the park brake on - its painful.

The usual Weekend price rises hit today, and with the impact of World events over the last few days, there's been a bit more in it than usual, plus a bit of a mad buying panic going on, so only a couple of places (including my local ) here are left that are still selling Standard ULP Gas for less than AUD $2.00/litre; our 95 RON (your 91 AKI or whatever) is now basically AUD $2.20 or more/litre; & our 98 RON (your 93 AKI) is well over that in most places.... saw one Servo with it listed at AUD $2.65/litre today (but heard of others even higher! ) and yet people were still lining up to fill at that price!

Well, The Russian Invasion jumped Indiana gas prices an additional $0.50 per gallon.
Moving forward it could get mighty nasty.

Yes very 'interesting' isn't it. Something happens anywhere and fuel jumps asap. Factors change that should see the rise reversed and I am yet to see if drop as fast as it climbs
