Yep you are right about " memory " ... I remember the topic " high belt tension " and after reading about it lowered the tension on my 08 GS ( and was promptly got spanked by many here ) and have used lower tension on my other two spyders with great success .... My 14 RT at 66,000 + mi. has shown no red dust..... ....
