Default ?? Convert direct wire electric liner to battery

Just wondering… has anyone tried to make a direct wired jacket liner be “ambidextrous”… such as it can be used on or off the bike … direct wired or battery operated..as needed??

Most if not all 'direct-wired' heated gear is 12v. You would need a 12v battery to carry around to wear the heat off-bike. There are a few 7.4v battery powered jackets, gloves, socks that are better suited for stand-alone use.

I built this combination for my Moto Guzzi V7 (now gone) but the energy math didn't work as I intended:

    45Watts: https://www.aerostich.com/clothing/k...tric-vest.html

    52.8Watt/Hr: https://shoraipower.com/search?q=LFX14L2-BS12

I'm installing the Aerostitch heated vest setup on the RT-S now (also variable heat grips) and might try standalone once it's finished. Part of the problem is the Shorai battery's bulky case is designed for engine compartment ruggedness vice Ororo's, et al compact, lightweight batteries. But old is cold so rather than two heated vests I may try again to make the Aerostich/Shorai combination work.

I believe that "Warm & Safe" has a portable power for off bike use as well

Talking Energy density equation is unforgiving

Warm & Safe makes excellent products. But you can't escape the energy density equation.

    https://www.warmnsafe.com/collection...-in-controller

7.4V 7800mAh Li-Ion Battery with built in 6 level temperature control and a fuel meter digital display. ... If you are planning to use a 7.4V battery on a 12V product you will get 1/3rd of the heat. So a 90 Watt, 12V liner will give you 30 Watts of heat not 90 Watts.

Hunters wear battery operated heated gear but they don’t have the wind taking away the heat problem like we do but they might be ok for milder temps and you could carry extra batteries for long rides.

I have a Mobile Warming 7.4v long sleeve shirt with a spare battery and 12v charger that I carry on-board in case my 12v wired jacket fails. I don't like being cold but I ride year-round and often far from home.

Wink BMW* solution for dismounted heated gear

Pooch -- your dismounted solution is waiting for you at Warm and Safe:

    https://www.warmnsafe.com/collection...-in-controller

    https://www.warmnsafe.com/collection...-adapter-cable

    https://www.warmnsafe.com/collection...ery-belt-pouch

W&S doesn't offer a 12V charger for the 7.4V battery but if you add a 110V inverter to your Spyder you can charge it from their wall power charger https://www.warmnsafe.com/collection...world-plug-set

W&S seems to be very open to customer suggestions so doesn't hurt to ask for a 12V charger.

I'd check with The Warming Store first because their 12V charger is for 7.4V 2.2Ah and 4.0Ah lithium-ion batteries and the W&S battery is 7.4V 7.8Ah. Lithium-ion chargers can be fussy. But I think Pooch has a complete solution. And he'll have room for the belt battery pack because his wallet will be so much smaller.
