Default Break in mode?? My First Spyder

Do the 1330s have a break in mode, I just past 8k miles and this machine seems to have woken up, I mean these things are fast but now this machine seems to have much more power...snappyer and more torquey

What you have surmised seems to be what occurs in most 1330 Engines. ... for some reason they have a very long " break-in " time .... this engine model is only 8 years old, you would think the time should be much less, but that doesn't seem to be the case ..... jmho .... Mike

There's something to be said about the owner's "break-in time" also. I believe 8k, give or take a few miles, is what it may take for an owner to become one with his/her new machine. Even long after 8k, the owner can still benefit from some of the uniquenesses the spyder has to offer, including maintenance.

What these guys are trying to tell you, is they do deturn your motor for a break-in period I believe!! They do it to sleds, don't know why they wouldn't do it to bikes also!! Have fun enjoy!!!! Be safe!!

Can they really do that? Is it built into the ECU and nanny controlled?

I know they can do it on snowmobiles!! But if they don't do it on these bikes, then maybe the bike is just loosening up and feels like you have more power!!! With sleds you have too many hammer heads that will take it out of the box and hammer the snot out of it, so they numb it down for a few miles then open it up!! Myself, I like to break them in slow, so everything gets a chance to seat in, then ride it like you want - has worked for me with a lot of sleds!!!

Ya I've been ryding this machine pretty hard from day one, and it definitely has more power now, tire breaking loose power, more mid range etc...

When I took my 2021 RTL in for the first oil change at LaMonsters, the mechanic said that the 1330's don't start putting out full power until over 5K--so it's true!

Ace motors in snowmobiles, 600 and 900's seem to have a 500-mile break in. Then again, those motors have a normal operating range of 4500 to 8000 rpm.
Spyders are not wound up that tight all the time so I can see it having a longer break in time.
Main thing is fully warmed up before you send it.

I have a friend who owned a new motorcycle dealership for many years. They sold Honda, Kawasaki, and Moto Guzzi. He always told me and anyone else who bought a new bike to 'just go ride the thing'. Break in to him made no sense at all. This article certainly says the same thing if not a bit more extreme. I mean who ever heard of breaking in a motocross bike? Nope, just run it like you stole it from the start and all will be good.
