Default RTSE6 Trans Drain Plug Stuck - any ideas to get it undone??

Has anyone had any trouble getting out oil drain plugs? I almost stripped the head on the trans plug on my '14 SE6, but finally got it out after motor cooled down.

    Thanks,

Pretty sure that plug is 6 mm Allen wrench, not torx.If you still can’t get it you maybe could try to get a channel lock on it or maybe tap it with a hammer and chisel.Warning, you will be causing damage to either the plug or the engine casing so you might want to take to a dealer if your not sure.

    Hi Ray,

    Some thoughts about your situation:
    1. Make sure of the fastener---- one of them is a hex key ( Allen wrench ) I believe.
    2. Make sure the wrench is fully seated and give it a hard "rap" with a small hammer to break loose the varnish formed by the hit oil.
    3. Double check you socket wrench is set to loosen( counterclockwise ) as this mistake has been made here.
    4. purchase " Gold plugs which have a regular bolt ( hex) head.
    5. I used a Dremel tool to enlarge the 2 holes--- makes the job less messy.

Gruntled -- first get better lighting. Second the magnetic gearbox plug is 6mm Allen 1/4" deep. Third consider replacing the BRP plugs with Goldplug. Fourth consider using a 1/4" torque wrench.

Gruntled -- so what dealer did you buy your RT-S from? And if you'd like to borrow my 1/4" digital torque wrench let me know. My dragster buddy ain't going to Barona tomorrow so I'm free to bring it by.

    Hey everyone,

Thanks so much for the helpful responses. Yes, it was 6mm and the plug is out!

What did you do about the damaged drain plugs?
So did you install 'Gold Plugs'? Or did you install OEM?

I will look into installing Gold Plugs at the next change which probably won't be for about another year. The stock plug was still good enough to resuse.

Heat and cold. I had a hell of a time getting the crank pulley bolt out of a 22R, so I used a heat gun around it. Of course, the bolt heats up along with the block, but not as much. I had the socket I was using in the freezer. Heated up the whole area, hit the bolt with freeze spray, then slapped the cold socket on it and reefed on it. Popped loose.

The concept is to get the area around the bolt hole expanding with heat and the bolt itself contracting with cold. Same trick as installing bearing races.
