Default Any low cost/OBDII Diagnostic tools for Spyders?

Does anyone know of a low cost tool to diagnose problems for the Spyder? if you can find an adapter for OBDll, will it work on the spyder?

The good: You can get active codes from your Spyder without any tools and if you have a repair manual you can look them up and it will give you some diagnostic test you can run to narrow the problem down if your good with a volt meter. You can buy the manual on line at say ebay for the 2011 Spyder RT for about $20.

The Bad: The only diagnostic tool that will work is the BRP Buds / Bud2 system tool and you will also need to buy a license. Some members here do have that (Buds & License) but most if that is needed just take it to there local dealer or someone that has one. Most of the time you will not need that tool to fix things.

What Copper said is exactly right. Most people do not need BUDS, but there is nothing else available for diagnostics. That said, BUDS is invaluable for following the service manual for many tasks that the engineers say are required on the Spyder, such as brake bleeding, transmission filter venting, steering angle resets, etc. If you really need access to BUDS, a lot of us here have it, myself included. For many tasks and general code reading, you don't need your own copy of it.

What needs to happen is US DOT and NHTSA need to get together and set standard for OBD for motorcycles and other small recreation vehicles, just like in automobiles. Can-Am has their own protocol, Honda has their own connector and protocol, etc. But that would make life too easy.

    Cheers!
