Default How often do you change the oil in your Spyder?

I just passed 3,000 and had the initial service done. Is 3,000 overly conservative going forward, or realistic for needing an oil change?

I change it every 5,000 miles. That usually is about twice a year.

Full synthetic might get better mileage, but least one a yr on oil. Brake fluid 2yr max

The maintenance schedule, pg 113 of your operator's guide, says every 9,300 miles or once/year, whichever comes first. IME, since I ride year round there is no reason to change it at less than 9,300 miles.

Every 9,000 miles, give or take a few one way or the other.

BRP states every 9300 miles after the first one at 3000. I do 9000 as it's easier to remember even numbers - as in 12,000, 21,000, 30,000 compared to 12,300, 21,600, 30,900.
150,000 combined miles on 1330 motors without any oil related issues.

I change my oil every November, just before winter storage. I usually have 5-7K on the oil. I'll be ordering my BR oil filter kit next week

Changed at 3000, 7000 (pre-trip), & 14000 (pre-trip). Always full synth. I log lots of miles per year so I've never gone a year without at least 2 changes. So far, no oil loss between changes.

I also follow the manual recommendations. I round it to 9,000 miles OR once a year--whichever comes first.

If you have to lay up for a number of months, add stabil or seaform to your gas tank before run to warm up the oil and then do the oil before storing.

I have the oil changed when the spyder is in storage/hibernation. I use full synthetic for wet clutch systems.

Before. Dump out the acidic and crudded up oil before storage.

How long does a spyder have to be parked before it is considered to be in a storage/hibernation condition? When that time is met, how long does it take before that cruddy acidic laden oil can damage the engine? If the oil had been changed say at 3k,4k, or 6k miles prior to being parked, would that be considered as badly contaminated oil? How about just draining it all out and having it analyzed and if still useable, put it back in after storage?

Default OIL Change and ENGINE OIL SAMPLE

I change my Engine Oil as per BRP (9300 miles or once a year). I also pull an Engine Oil Sample and have it analyzed. The Blackstone Labs results have come back with Excellent feed back. As a Retired Heavy Equipment Technician with 40+ years, I Know the Value of doing an oil sample.

    Storage: more than a month.

When I was in Alaska, it went into storage when the black ice hit the roads. Usually sometime in October. Wake up time was usually late March to April depending on the ice for my country road. Regardless of black ice, I was considered one of the crazy ones. I rode much later and much earlier than most. My comfort zone was 20 degrees above zero at the end of my adventure in Alaska. In MN, in the 60's, I did a 10 below zero ride. Now THAT WAS COLD.

It was common practice for most of the HD owners in AK to park them on Sept. 30...regardless of driving conditions or temps. Just to cold and uncomfortable to ride.
