Default Is the 12 volt outlet in trunk safe to connect a battery tender?

Is it safe to use the 12 volt outlet in the rear trunk of a 2011 spyder lt as a connection point for a battery tender?

It depends on the battery tender, but most of them are 2 amps or less, and that circuit is rated at 5 amps or so.

I'd rather connect a pigtail directly to the battery and play it safe.

    Default Yes

    Yes, you can do that.

My TIP: Go directly to the Battery is the best choice....

That is how I did mine.

Mike - No problem at all - safety or otherwise. Been connecting there for 9 years. On the 2011 RT, that outlet is always live and it is fed by a 10a fuse. Go ahead and take advantage of the convenience.

Absolutely works fine. On our 2014 RTS, I swapped the fuse in 2014 and have used a Battery Minder, the type that desulfates, via the 12v plug in the trunk. Never been an issue.

A recent mod, I piggybacked a dual USB outlet, that is magnetically switched off, via the same wiring, and mounted that near the 12v outlet. Had to many non charge events of USB items, specifically the SENA headsets using USB adapters.

Kirwin at Providence was awesome to deal with having met him at a Spyder rally.
