Default Insurance Options - Time to look for another agent?

Comprehensive Insurance ... $900 for one year with a $500 deductible and a $12k limit. Total premium is $1556. And that's for a machine I can only ride six months out of the year.

    WTF??

Agent's got it listed as a high performance bike and cites the old Honda three wheelers as proof of instability. Right - apples and oranges. Time to look for another agent?
Half a million miles, and I ain't dead yet.

Default State Farm seems a good deal for Spyder coverage

Try State Farm. I have a full bells-and-whistles policy for $187 p/a. (I also home+auto with SF, which does reduce the premium.) And, ALL family members are listed as approved drivers, even my 19-yr old son (tho' I have NOT told him that fact!). Caven

geez, someone thinks they can BS their way into a nice payday. I'd never do business with them again. I think mine is about 220 a year with progressive, and don't forget if you did a motorcycle safety course to get your discount for that too. I have my business insurance and my business truck through them, but not my tractor (inland marine policy) or my home (USAA).

Hard to say without knowing your age and record, but the "the old Honda three wheelers as proof of instability" part wreaks of fish and would make me shop around. I'm 67 yrs old with a spotless driving record and pay $270.00/year to Progressive in Texas for $50,000 each person, $100,000 each accident, $25,000 each accident (bodily injury and property damage), and comprehensive with $1,000 deductible that will go down each year I'm claim free.

Part of the problem is that sKiZo and myself are up here in Michigan. The insurance laws and rates up here suck. We're usually at least 50% more if not double of surrounding states for car insurance, so I'm not surprised that motorcycle rates would be similarly screwy.

That being said, it most definitely pays to shop around...

It really does depend on your driving history and the state. But the two issues that they stated are nonsense. Jump on the computer and do some online quotes. I go back and forth between Geico and Progressive every few years and they always seen to be the least expensive for me.

Try Geico. You can go to their site and play with the coverages, watching how the price changes. They will cover your Spyder immediately online...NO AGENTS!

I'm paying $60/month with Geico for my 2021 Ryker. I have full year coverage plus I tacked on a whole bunch other things like medical payments, more coverage, etc.

I've had other insurance companies try and quote me about 3 times that.

    All good info. Thanx!

What's weird is the same company insures my Ural sidecar rig for under $300. And I'd put that up against any Honda ATC as most dangerous bike in the world ... <G>

PS - perfect driving record, except for the motorcycle accident I died in.
(I got better, and it wasn't my fault)

    Hey sKiZo,

just did a quote for my upcoming Ryker purchase...

Progressive Insurance (I already have my home, cars, and 2 Buells with them, so....bundle), same $500 deductible you did,
I'm in metro Detroit area, age over 50, no accidents....

Quote was $189 for a year.

You definitely need a new agent.....

    Thanks,
    EV
