Newbie with questions on ordering a 2022 model
Hey all,
just joined as the missus and I are taking the plunge and looking for a Ryker 900 for her to chase me around on (I have a Buell Ulysses).
Been looking at craigslist/cycletrader/etc. at used rides, but today I get the fun discussion at lunch....
Her: I like the idea of cruise control.
Me: That's only on the 2022 models, so we'd have to go new.
Her: Well, I've decided that I don't care. I'll add the extra money to the budget, so let's just do it!
Sooooo, looks like we are going for a '22MY Sport.
My questions to the forum are, has anyone ever done the whole custom order thing?
How long does it take to get your Ryker built?
Any idea if the dealer will negotiate on MSRP at all?
We plan on getting a few accessories, so room to move on price there?
Thanks,
EV

Hi, I just received an E-mail today from Can-Am on preordering my Ryker 2022. I have a 2021, don't need a 2022. I advise going to your local dealer, they can answer all your questions. They should be able to tell you how long it will be on a special order. I found considerable price difference among dealers too. Some deal, some don't. Good hunting.

When I bought the 2020 for my wife, they were not dealing...at all.
Good luck, I am sure she will love it!

Factory cruise control on a Ryker? First I've heard. Not confusing it with a Spider? Only one I've heard of is a mechanical type like the Atlas or Vista ...

Ordering is one thing can wife learn spyder/Ryker handling is quite different from two wheels unfortunately can be too much for some. Check for classes some offer training on the rykers. apparently the Ryker “Sport” does have CC

Deals on the 2022? Not likely until next year when the 23's come out. That is the pain when buying latest and greatest. Ask me how I know?
Info on iMoto is good. A good place to work with. I have now purchased two F3's from them. I got deals, but they were on one year old "new" models.
The savings on freight and set up is good. Some dealers try to get $2K more for that. Likewise if you go with BEST warranty from BRP. iMoto will give you three years for under $700. We have heard of people paying up to $1,500 for it from other dealers.
Currently Owned: 2019 F3 Limited, 2020 F3 Limited: SOLD BOTH LIMITEDS in October of 2023.
Previously : 2008 GS-SM5 (silver), 2009 RS-SE5 (red), 2010 RT-S Premier Editon #474 (black) 2011 RT A&C SE5 (magnesium) 2014 RTS-SE6 (yellow)
MY FINAL TALLY: 7 Spyders, 15 years, 205,500 miles
IT HAS BEEN A LONG, WONDERFUL, AND FUN RIDE.

Got one of those today. All excited about finding out what mine was worth as a trade in. When i got to the point of "You will be contacted by your local dealer" I just closed the browser, there was not a place for me to comment "I would rather get a swift kick in the gonads than have to deal with the local stealer"

Lots of good info. I will definitely check out iMotorsports.

I am an MSF instructor in NY. I teach people to ride motorcycles and three wheelers. Our school has a deal with Can Am and we get 6 new bikes every season to use for training. We have Rykers. My wife took the class the middle of the summer. She never rode one and was on the road riding full time the following week. She just did a 2000 mile weekend with me a few weeks ago.
The point is, the Ryker is not a difficult machine to learn.
For the low price of $99 you can take the three day class at my school (Can Am subsidizes the usual class fee of $385) and get your license waiver and a very good set of basic tools to prepare you for riding in the real world.
I am sure there are schools near the OP that offer the same 3WBRC class I teach.
All you need is the proper motivation, an open mind and a willingness to learn!

Spygoat,
Fully agreed. I took the regular MSF class years ago when I got my cycle endorsement. Learned a ton from both the in-class portion as well as the range (took my test in the rain!). Biggest takeaway was ATGATT.
We are both going to take the Can-Am 3 wheel class when slots open up in the spring...
Thanks,

That's "dealerspeak" for "Something we can charge because these suckers are hard to get right now."

Thought so. That is something that we never did and do not do to this day.

My 900 Ace got stuck north of the border due to that covid thing. When the border opened again, time for the customs agents to strike . (mutter mumble)
Definitely worth the wait though. Yeah. Definitely ...
PS ... dealer ate all the weird transport and assembly fees on my '21. Only shop charge was to install accessories ...

Yup. Bought it in 2018 when I was suddenly unable to drive a two wheeler any more. My timing was off by THAT much, eh. As it is, I didn't even know the Ryker existed until recently and scored me a shiny new 900 Ace. (insert ***** eating grin here).
Still got the Ural too, if only as a reminder of how scary a motorcycle can be at 60mph. Never could quite get the hang of piloting one, and I've got the white hairs to prove it ...<G>
PS - The Ural has what they call UDF, or "Ural delay factor". Many a conversation with folk wonder what it is. I find the same thing with the Ryker. RDF, anyone?

I had a Ural at one time; bought it new in 2006. My mom had to ride in the sidecar the day I picked it up.

Speaking of which, in Texas there is a thing called "Vehicle Inventory Tax" that dealers will stick you with.

Hey all,
in doing some research over the past couple days, I have answered one of my own questions...

I'm in the car biz, so I am always curious about manufacturing plants/methods/etc. Since we're diving into this world of Can-Am and Rykers, I thought it might be cool to see where they are built, and if they do factory tours or anything of the sort. That lead me to here;
https://museebombardier.com/en/activ...plant-package/
Turns out there is a Bombardier museum up there in Valcourt, Quebec, and during the weekdays (normally), you can take a tour of the factory that makes the Spyders/Rykers and Ski-doo snowmobiles. Right there on the website is this gem of info;
"Take the guided tour and learn more about the manufacture and assembly of Ski Doo® snowmobiles (summer and fall) or Can-Am® Spyder® vehicles (winter and spring) and the tradespeople who work at the plant."
So, looks like if I order a 2022 model, they won't start producing until this winter. Too bad. Won't get to experience a nice fall riding season until next year...

This morning I went on Can-Am's webstie and wound up on a sidebar chat. Asked the agent about when 2022 models were shipping and got this response;
"2022 models will ship early spring next year"
So, it's official then. Gonna be waiting a few months....

A bit more specific information from another source;
https://motoweekly.com/2022-can-am-r...t-look-review/
"Although Can-Am says it wasn’t hugely impacted by COVID-related supply chain issues, there were still some shocks felt in the delivery system and it expects all MY2022 vehicles to be available by February of 2022, while accessories should be available before that."

Yup, the 2022 Rykers are going to have factory installed cruise control. I think that's pretty cool.
