Default Will a Cat delete pipe help remove heat from the Spyder?

Im would like ti known from members who have the cat delete pipe, how did it help removing heat from the spyder,

i am not looking for performance factor, being a retired auto tech, tells me the cat is close to the belt, which adds extra heat to the belt

i live in south carolina, so riding in 100 degree plus heat is normal, it worrys me riding in town, red ligh to red light, thanks

The main reason I swapped the cat for a RLS baffled/resonator pipe was to reduce heat. While I have no measurements of the change, subjectively it's much cooler. And the smell of burning (or at least very hot) rubber is gone. I suspected that smell was from the belt being 'cooked' by the converter. It was a good upgrade for me and RLS was great to deal with. I tried it without the baffle first and didn't like the sound and small reduction in mileage.

I had the RLS ceramic coated version installed at the Hot Springs rally earlier this year. I had the baffle installed. I noticed an immediate reduction in heat when stopped at a traffic light. That was enuff to pay back the cost and was my reason for wanting it. Slightly better sound, not harsh or load. No positive or negative performance benefits noticed.

The " CAT " because of it's size, ie. surface and the baffles inside is a hugh " heat sink ". .... It retains it's heat for a long time after you shut off your engine also .... Because of the size - it weighs about 20 lbs. ... on an 1150 lbs Spyder that isn't much of a weight reduction but every little bit helps .... jmho .... Mike

I replaced the cat on my 14 RTS SE6 and as for sound and performance change, it was minuscule at best on both counts. So, was it worth it? If you have the money, the time, and the tools, then yes it may be worth it. Otherwise, no. However, that being said, it was worth it to me. Honestly, the change was so slight I can't remember what it was like before the swap, that's how small a difference it made. Now, if you really want to talk performance, pull out your ECU (3 screws and a connector) ship it off, and have it flashed (reprogramed) and now you'll have performance. It's essentially "plug and play."

Pete, I did the Cat Delete from LaMonster Garage. I have the Akrapovic muffler. The sound difference is NOT obnoxious, but you do hear it, even at highway speed. The delete made a huge difference in the “under seat” heat. Easy diy job....maybe 30 minutes,

I went with the cat delete. Which by the way is hugely overpriced for what it is, but enough of that. I bought my cat delete off the "FS" section for 1/2 of what a new one goes for. I check that section every day along with craig's list and FB. As far as swapping out OEM parts for more performance, the ECU upgrade is the best bang for your buck. It's just like with cars. Folks start out with glass packs and then work their way back up to the engine itself to increase performance, which is the wrong way to go. That's the same as what most spyder owners do. Start at the other end which is exactly what EPA doesn't want you to do. I gotta stop here but you get my drift. Combustion control is where it's at, not sound control.

I believe the ORIGINAL QUESTION had to do with HEAT, not SOUND. At least that is how I read it.....

I was looking at those from RLS. Can't figure out what that big canister in the middle is for. Looks like a snake ate a cantaloupe.

Give RLS a call -- he'll answer any question you can think of asking. Honest, good people.

Mine is installed with the honeycomb baffle. Barely increases the sound -- more of a change in the character of the sound. The python bulge is a resonator of sorts to keep the sound under control. The elimination of heat and burning rubber smell were worth the price.

This one from Baldwin Ironworks seems identical to the ones others are selling (not RLS) for 1/2 the price.

Appears to be identical to the one that I bought from Lamonster Garage. Doesn’t comment on the gauge, but does LOOK the same. jmho

I believe the 'cannister' in the middle is to alleviate the need for extra baffles in order to return some back-pressure (for power) if used with a straight thru (no back-pressure) muffler, and to provide a deeper, 'less harsh' sound. . But as others have said, if you really want to know, just give him a call.

It could be the same, who knows. Keep in mind that unless Lamonster makes these in shop that they must be purchased from somewhere, shipped to them and then a profit put on them to stay in business.

Wow! Too late for me; I just ordered the Baldwin Iron Works on from eBay for twice that, but 1/2 what certain Spyder vendors want. Some will say I'm buying junk, but here's the thing - it's not rocket science!

I know he does for my 2013 st, told me he would add me to the list if he gets enough interest/orders to make some more. Told me it's to time consuming to make just one.
