Default How long does the 1300 engine last.

I'm not familiar with the Can Am so just wondering what kind of life I would get out of the 1300 engine. What kind of mileage do people have so far and what problems have they had? I have 178,000 on my BMW 1200 with no engine problems and I would ride it across country tomorrow.

Nobody really knows how long they will last (yet).

Too many of them are still piling on the miles to stop and look at the odometer.

The good news, the jury is still out on that one. I had the first year of the model (2014, warning, warning, beware of first editions, they have bugs to be worked out of them). NOT, NOT, NOT. We kept ours until January of 2021 when we bought our new F3L. There were about 45K miles on ours. Never had a mechanical problem with the engine. I feel that I could have kept it for another seven years, but what is the fun in that?

There are reports of plus 100K miles on a few out there. And, we have not heard of mechanical failures on existing ones. I would say its a good gamble that the 1330 is not going to prematurely destruct.

IMHO if properly maintained I think 250,000 mi. without having to replace any major parts is reasonable ..... Mike

Well, if you haven't already, you may want to order a spare Camshaft Position Sensor. 2016 and 2017 many failed prior to 28k. Mine did and its backorder until the middle of October. It hasn't stranded me but it sure is cold natured now.

These engines are used in several BRP products. Good for you with your BMW. I have a friend in Ontario who would like to reide across Canada, but is concerned that his 2006 GS with approximately 70K Kms on it would not be up to the task. I have riden 42 year old Gold Wings across Canada without an issue. Mindset is a wonderful thing.

Bought my 2014 RTL last March with 9K Kms on it. Have since put some 10K Kms on it. Leaving in a couple of weeks for a cross Canada to Nefoundland and back trip. The Mrs estimates ome 17K Kms for this trip. All maintenance has been done, have a good roadside package and VISA.

If you find one that you like and meets all your requirements, don't let the engine stop you from owning it. I'd be more concerned with the electronics, much the same with new two wheelers.

IMHO that's an electrical device Attached to the engine to achieve a desired operational function, like a distributor or rectifier....And to me that doesn't qualify it to be termed an Engine..... Mike

Rideaway2 you should be able to expect a similar experience from your 1330 as you got from your BMW.

The thread is almost a year old. He likely already made his decision, as that was his first and only post.
