Default Traffic lights and Spidey Senses

I’m absolutely certain the city of St. John’s, Newfoundland, has added special sensors to all its traffic lights. When I rode to work this morning, every time I approached an intersection, the city ‘spidey senses’ started tingling and the lights turned red.

There's one particular town here in Arizona that has lights about every 1/4 mile for 3+ miles. Leaving a red light, traveling legal speed only brings you to the very next light turning red. It happens all the way through town. I think it is the town's way of making sure no one is in a hurry..... Jim

So that happens to you too. I just assumed I was very photogenic for the red light cameras.

There is only one much more annoying trait at traffic lights - ones that dont recognize the Spyder. There is a set I have been caught twice at in summer - I have to wait for someone to come alongside to trigger them. Have contemplated taking a chainsaw with me to resolve but suspect its possibly against the law to undertake

Lots of Cities/towns here in Oz have 'Traffic Light Control Centres' where an operator/operators can see via CCTV what's going on at all the light controlled intersections, and I juuust happen to know that sometimes, one or more of those operators might feel like giving you every green just cos they can, or maybe they want to check out a particular vehicle.... ( like maybe your Spyder/Ryker?? ) &/or a person/passenger/operator ( ) so they over-ride the light sequences in order to stop you/them/something at every set of lights to make that 'checking it out' possible.

There again, those operators have also been known to take a dislike to a particular vehicle/operator for any one of a vast range of possible reasons, and so they just stop a bunch of traffic at every intersection just cos they can - or possibly vice versa?!?

You can always video this occurring and maybe lodge a complaint?!? Who knows, it might get you an apology & maybe even a guided tour of your local Traffic Light Control Centre?! It's not likely to actually change anything, but hey, the tour was interesting!?!

Colorado motorcyclists are now allowed to proceed through “dead red lights” after waiting two minutes and ensuring that traffic has cleared.

In my area, known as the "4 States", Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas all have "Dead Red" laws that allow motorcycles to proceed at t red light if there is no opposing traffic and the light stays red for an unreasonable amount of time, usually what would be 2 cycles of red-yellow-green. Here is a video about red lights and motorcycles. Check your state laws, the list of states with Dead Red laws in the video may have changed since this came out in 2020.

Got stopped once in Culpeper Virginia for running a red light. He gave me a warning.
The police officer was sitting at a gas station watching me at the red light.
It went through three cycles and just passed me by each time.

Virginia law allows motorcycle riders to proceed through a red light, as long as the motorcyclist:
Comes to a full and complete stop. Checks all directions of travel. Waits at least two full cycles or
    two minutes (whichever is shorter).Jan 8, 2019
