Default The .... NEW ... Quatrac tire

This may be a re-placement for the Q-5 ( Michelin did the same with the Hydro , into the Defender and then that into the Defender T&H ) .... So I went to the company Web-site .... they don't list it!!!! .... I sent them an E-mail ... I will post when I hear from them .... Mike .... I also learned that Vulcan tire is the oldest distributor for this brand ....

I'll be interested to hear if the new Quatrac is better/worse than the Q5. It is a totally different tread design. I supposed it will take a few months before the reviews can come in.

Based on how much I like the Q5's I would be willing to try them, but I have many 1,000 miles left in the Q5's so don't wait on me to be the tester.....................

Tread pattern doesn't have as much meaning compared to the Rubber Compound. As far as traction goes when using all-season or summer tires .... Real Winter tires are different ... deep snow needs an aggressive pattern..... Mike

The " stickiest " tire I have ever read about & used on a Spyder was the Toyo Proxes t1r .... it was was way grabbier than the Nanny liked. That tire is only available now in 19 inch Dia. and larger ( at tire rack.com ).....Toyo has come out with a new tire the _ Proxes R1R that sounds promising but it is too new and there is no Rating yet for it .... It appears to me that the Quatrac is being released in Europe before in the U.S. At the bottom of the Vredestein webpage you can select the country and language you want to view.

Here is the UK and English page; they have the Quatrac there: https://www.vredestein.co.uk/car-suv...3/1815-quatrac

This July 9, 2020 announcement, near the bottom of the article, gives somewhat of a timeline for expected delivery: https://press.apollovredestein.com/v...eason-segment/

Thanks very much for this info ..... It doesn't surprise me that it's being released in Europe first ..... that is where Vredestein has it's largest market .... I'm glad to see the Actual sizes that are being made .... not all distributors are going to have every tire size that is available from every manufacturer. Since it's brand new it will take a awhile to get an accurate assessment on it's performance capabilities .... However if Past reports of their other tires are considered I think the " Quatrac " will again score high rating ..... Mike

Went with the 175/55-15 at order time last week TR only had 9 units in stock.
I have the same size Q5's on my F3. No Q's at Vulcan tire yet.
You will not fit a 175/65-15 under the front fenders

Thanks - and about trying 175/65-15's .... they may not fit ..... I did get the Altimax RT43 in 175/65-15 to fit on my 2014RT with basic fenders but I had to use a few washers and trimmed the outside of the fenders.. ..... my new Q-5's are 165/60-15 and there's no issues ..... Mike

I looked at the listing for the tire, it is "Severe Snow Service Rated". I'm guessing that the tread has something to do with that, but possibly also the compound. My question is whether the compound that makes it a good snow tire would work well in the heat of summer, when most Spyders get ridden. True, the tire will be rather lightly-loaded compared to its capacity, but still, ...

The old Q-5's were also " severe Snow service rated " and nobody has complained about a " low mileage life " .... The open tread design is probably why it has a high excellent rating in the WET...... Dry is about equal ..... I think the New Quatrac is going to be another winner ..... Mike

I guess it might be a difference between "severe snow service rated" and what I have been told is a true "snow tire" or "winter tire". Snow tires don't do well in warm weather because of their compounds.

I have never lived in an area where "winter tires" were mandatory, or even recommended. Even in the Chicago area (almost 50 years ago), standard tires were fine. Now, I use "all season" tires and don't have to worry about changing them for winter use.

I had never bothered to read the sidewall on our Q5s, had not noticed that they are also snow rated.
    Thanks for the enlightenment.

As of today Vulcan Tire still does not sell the new Q. The rear gets installed Wednesday, New fronts performed great on the DW3 ride out and back.

I put mine on my F3 yesterday. No riding impressions yet, but they took 2oz each to balance. These were put on to replace the stock tires which simply would not balance. One of the stock tires was over 125 thousandths (1/8”) out of round.

I just put on a full set of the new Quatrac tires two weeks ago. Used Centramatics beads for balancing. Don't forget to remove existing balancing weights that are on the rims. The traction is outstanding on curves. I'm running them at 18psi front and 22 rear.
