Default Trailer Mode for 2020 RT Limited?

    Hi Everyone,

I just bought a Freedom Trailer and hitch for my 2020 RTL. The manual for the trailer says that you have to operate the SE5 and SE6 in "Trailer Mode" when towing it, and refers you to the Spyder's Owner's Manual. I've scoured the manual and can't find even a mention of Trailer Mode. Is this something that is only relevant to earlier models? I don't want to damage my Spyder, as the trailer's manual says could happen.

    Thanks!
    Bob

Bob, that’s a left over feature from back in the SE5 days of the twin cylinder engine I believe. I have a 2014 and trailer mode is not on it. No need to worry your 2020 will hav no issues with that trailer. Best add on we ever bought was our trailer, enjoy.

    Wiv wot 'e ^^ says!

Trailer Mode is only found on the V-Twin powered SE5's. It's important for them due to their Centrifugal clutch, which requires at least 3,300 to fully engage - a clutch type that the SE6's don't have! They have an oil pressure/hydraulic clutch instead, so if your 1330 engine is running & producing the necessary oil pressure to keep it working, then it'll keep the clutch engaged too!

Still doesn't pay to let the revs drop so much that the engine begins 'lugging' tho, despite the scads of torque the 1330's have at quite low revs! . So while-ever you're towing, you'd probably be smart just to keep your revs up a little more than usual and maybe hold the lower gears for a bit longer on the up-shifts as well as changing down a little earlier than you might usually when pulling &/or engine braking .
